When I first started learning GIMP a couple of years back, one quote in the forum from Lyle stuck in my mind. It was, if I remember it correctly, "I'm a filters man myself ..."

So I started playing this morning and from one single brush stroke I created the image below using a combination of GIMP and GMIC filters ... and that is when I suddenly remembered that auspicious quote

So thank you Lyle for the inspiration!

I agree re lylejk, he still has some filters in G'mic.

I think 'gold_brush_gmic3.png' is very good. Looks like a 3D mandala or similar.
You were pretty inspirational yourself when I first browsed GC.

I was losing my eyesight a few years ago and had successful cataract surgery. It can creep-up on you quickly. I had stopped driving at night and my eyes were about 4" away from the monitor. Things are better now....I can Gimp :yes

Erisian - nice ones and very glad you are back posting.

I'm about to start doing your tuts on face painting/sculpting/hair etc following my instinctive attempts at 'portraits' over on GL; some forum members thought I should take it more seriously so maybe I will!

One more just to say a final thank you to Lyle for opening up that wondrous world of filters for me. Started with 3 strokes of different coloured and sized 'apple' brushes on a path; then filter world took over -
