Hello Gimp users

I found out how to open GIMP 2.10.04 XCF file in GIMP 2.8.22.
But that's a long way..........

1 I open the XCF file in gimp 2.10.04 then I export it as PSD file.
2 I open the PSD file in gimp 2.8.22
3 Then I save it as XCF 2.8.22 file.

Is there a shorter way ? ? ?

If it is just a couple of layers, change the layer modes to legacy.

...Or stop using Gimp 2.8.22. I haven't used it since Gimp 2.10 came out and may soon delete it out of my system.

Wish it was that simple, but it's not. Toy and Focus Blur filters don't work in 2.10x. Had to open up 2.8x earlier today to render a bokeh of my shoes. lol

Just wish they could develop a widget that would seamlessly allow old scripts and plugins to work in 2.10x or translate and create new code for those oldies that are still useful. Same pain as always when they do a major upgrade. I use to keep old GIMP 1.2x around for a few of the plugins that never got ported to 2.2/2.4/2.6/2.8. Now I no longer have need for those oldies but goodies, but you never know if that can change.

That should be a default plug-in with 2.10.

Using linux, I still keep a Gimp 2.8.22 as well as a Gimp 2.10.4(flatpak). For some things Gimp 2.8 is just that bit quicker. Depends what you are doing.

Always the possibility to use Windows & linux, dual boot or use a VM.

I have about 50 scripts and plugins currently installed. I rarely use more than a dozen or so. I never used the "toy" or the "focus blur" scripts. Focus blur is included in G'mic and can easily be done manually with layer mask for more precision. for a quick method use the "Vignette" filter on the layer mask.

I'm not addicted to scripts and prefer to do most things manually.

Not seeing the focus blur preset in G'MIC. What's the name for it, racer-x since I'm not aware of this preset for G'MIC nor can I find it.

Degradations > Blur [depth-of-field]

Yeah; aware of this preset, racer-x, but it's not the same as focus blur (not even close). It's a pretty good preset though and I've used it in a recent render.

Lyle, did you try the re-compilations made by Samj?

That sounds very strange to me.
I use portable samj's pack.
I downloaded the specific old plugins mentioned, extracted only focusblur and placed into:
- preferences/old-plug-ins
the folder "focusblur" which contains "focusblur.exe" and "libfftw3f-3.dll"
Tried just once and it worked, no errors at all.

Tried again with a different image, and again no errors.
Lyle, could you:
- post the image you are trying to focus-blur
- specify the parameters you use
I could double-check on my PC.

PS: sorry for my "stupid" request, but: did you try on Gimp 2.10.4? This version of focusblur works with that one.
