You have a macro setting on your Olympus? It helps for those real close up shots of the flowers.

Mahvin beat me to it. The focus point was closer than the camera wanted to focus. Setting the camera to macro mode allows it to focus closer.

The color reproduction looks good. It even passes the purple test! (2nd image) Most digital cameras, have difficulty with purple. It records the color more blue.

The crabapple trees are beautiful!

Too lazy to replace the sky, but hope you don't mind a little shadow lightening and color enhancment (eyeballed) Liana.

I've never seen a white trillium, ours here are a deep maroon. The old timers used to call it Bubby, or sometimes birthroot because it reduced labor pains and cramps. My grandmother and I used to walk through the woods for days at a time. she would tell me the medicinal uses for plants. I think that knowledge is dying out slowly. About what the others said about the focal point being off, they're right but don't feel like a schmuck, it happens to everyone, you get everything set and move the camera just a bit, or a breeze moves your plant and it changes everything. That's why I use manual focus when I do plants ad macro photography. I did some very close up shots of some tiny flowers the other day and every one was blurry because i was trying out my little toy camera and it doesn't have manual focus. I have to be more careful when i use it.

@ Photomaster and Mahvin... I am not sure if my digital olympus has a macro setting.I do not recall ever using it in the past I like flower shots. It has lots of settings for night, sceen, movie camera symbol, looks like a portrait symbol (head), auto, M,P, S, A, and I think one that gives you time to take a pic of yourself.

I have a manuel 35mm olympus it's old uses film but I bought it a telephoto lens that has that macro on it. I have not used it in a while and something was not right with the lens. when I adjust it going to telephoto to macro. It acts as if it grinds when i turn it.
I have a Ricoh shotmaster auto 35mm I got back in 1991. I loved that camera took it with me to england but at last it is also a film one.

The blue flower you see with the jack-n-pulpit is a annual forget-me-not and the more purple flower is a dog violet. There are also white and yellow ones.

@ Gms9810 Here in MN it is called a great white trillium. I have bloodroot and lobed hepatica but they are done blooming I missed them.

That's interesting. The ones we have here are white but the flower buds are pale maroon and white.

We have both here, purple and white, although the white is more plentiful. Trilliums are Ontario's flower. The maple Leaf our Canadian emblem....

This picture is also old about 1994 with my Ricoh shotmaster auto 35mm. Minnesota state flower the Pink showy lady slipper. The aging white trillium was taken with the same camera. I was going to mention that the white trillium with age grows to a more pinkish color.

I LOVE violets. They don't grow where I live now, but when I was a kid and lived in San Diego, my mom had a patch of violets and in the summer when the sun was shining on them, the fragrance was heavenly. I'd stand there and just smell the fragrance.

We have blood root too, it's done for the year. It used to be used medicinally too. It was used as an astringent. It was also used to kill fungi like ringworm and athlete's foot. A few years ago they used it in toothpaste. The roots have a deep red juice in them, we used to have fun with it. Dig up a root about the size of your finger, break it off, put it between your other fingers, wrap a rag around it and run through camp screaming that you cut your ringer off with your hatchet. It used to trip out new scoutmasters every time.

@ GMS9810 That is funny about the cut-off finger. I have read about its (bloodroot) medicinal uses seems to warned against in most herbal books now. But then if the FDA, etc have their way all herbs will be not used. They can't make money off of what can not be patented.

@ O. Really?? I have never smelled these violets maybe I should try if they are still blooming when my sinuses clear up. The herbal people on a yahoo group are eating them right now or making jelly with them. I just tried to transplant a few so they would survive there was not too many around. But they have multiplied like rabbits this last year in my one little garden.

I will take and post more pictures as things bloom around here in another post.
