GIMP Version: 2.10.6
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

I prefer to use single window Gimp and in 2.8 it has always automatically provided 3 docks as per the Gimp user manual. This is practical as it keeps different dialogs types visible in their own dock; relevant section from the manual is shown below.

I am slowly getting 2.10.6 up and running, but for some reason only 2 Docks appear and all dialogs that used to be in separate docks are now together on the right side in a single dock, despite the manual for 2.10 (as below) stating the same as 2.8.

I may be having an extended senior's moment but cannot find a way to have the 3 docks visible. Any direction will be appreciated.

Have you tried to reset the preferences,
back to their default values?

Mine is customized, but it has 3 docks on the right side and the tool section on the left.

Thanks for responding but I still do not understand how these things work, firstly as a default and then as 'customisation'.

After much playing around with single window/floating docks and manual transfers of dockable dialogs, I now have three docks - tool box and tool options on the left, layers/paths etc on right and gradients/patterns/brushes etc also on right, but the two on the right are side by side ... not one above the other as in 2.8.

No where can I see a way of manipulating the height of each of the right side docks as I can in 2.8.

You should be able to drag any of the docked dialogs,
away form where it's docked and place it how you like on either side.

I made this video about Dockable Dialogs in Gimp,
that may or may not help.

For Gimp 2.10 reset the Gimp windows back to default

Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management then click on Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values Ok that & restart Gimp.

Then another couple of videos that might help.

Same as Gimp 2.8 there are 'hot-spots' to enable click-drag to resize. If you have a laptop (often 1366x768 pix display) you can make adjustments that help resizing the docks

rich2005 - thank you; I thought I had tried your solution already but obviously not. Now I'm back to normal (with GIMP 2.10 anyway)!
