multi color brush

I do not know if it is possible to create a multi-color brush in GIMP to paint like the attached picture.

Easily possible. Attached was done very quickly just to show that it is possible.
(Best used with Smooth Stroke)

I took the Rectangle Select to sample a small part of your image. Then Export as a gimp brush (.gbr)

It looks like using a normal black brush applying "Color from Gradient" with an appropriate gradient.

Don't think the drop shadow effects can be mimicked though Blighty II. Still the approach is good. Have to add that you need to use brush dynamics of course.

No brush dynamics needed to get an image like the one the OP posted. Dynamics need to be set to Dynamics Off.

Not easy to paint in directly.

You can always stroke a path:

The brush is just a canvas filled with a gradient then cropped.
