Hi. I recently saw a video about Nik, which is now free from Google. I found a youtube video, and a place to download the plugins for gimp. I have installed them, but do not see them in the filters menu. Then I went back to the linked webpage and it says it is for Gimp version 2.8.18.

Is there any way to make this work on 2.8.22, or do I need to roll back?

youtube video and link to webpage to download the files: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paFCYes ... e=youtu.be

I guess that Partha's portable packs include them and they are running, at least in the last 2.10.
You may try to download his 2.8.14 (provided you have 64bits).

Thanks for your advice.

I tried 2.9.5 off Partha's page and 2.8.18 off the gimp.org older version download page and couldn't get the plugins to show up. I reinstalled 2.8.22 off gimp.org and am hoping all my previously installed plugins will show.

There was nothing in program files for gimp after uninstalling each version, but my user files were not uninstalled.

Guess it's harder to go backwards in versions. :

If anyone has any other ideas I will try again. Thank you

Did you follow this instruction on Partha's site?

Partha provides the interface, but you still have to download the interfaced plug-ins.

I have 2.10, hence not exactly your environment, nevertheless I assume it's the same on 2.8 (portable)

I followed the instructions in the youtube video, and got the source files off the linked page, not from Partha. I will look for them over there and if I can find them try again.

It's weird, cause some people commented that it worked for them on several versions of Gimp.

I haven't updated to the latest Gimp, because I was waiting for more plugins and scripts to get updated.

Thanks for your help

There was a similar questions about the Nik collection on another forum (not much use to me using linux) so I downloaded to check what happens. 429 MB download - bloatware. Still have it archived though ;)

However, just gave it a try out with a portable Gimp 2.10.8 from Partha, regular installation is the same.

Run the installer, there are the usual language and can we phone home options, then you came to the destination folder Use the Default installation location The Partha plugins are set up for it. Ignore the compatible host application and install.

If you were feeling clever and installed to a different location, or you computer is set up in some other way, there might be language issues I do not know. Edit the Partha scripts to reflect the Nik location. Never tried it, do not advise it. Look for lines like this

# Build command line call
  command = "\"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Nik Collection\\Viveza 2\\Viveza 2 (64-Bit)\\Viveza 2.exe\"" + " \"" + tempfilename + "\""

Once installed, check that it actual works without Gimp. Go to the Nik installation folder and find one of the filter executables and run it, see if it starts.

Now you can check it in Gimp, a little dialogue about what to use and the active image opens in Nik. Tweak the settings, Save.

I get a little error message here, of no consequence, close it and continue.

Is it worthwhile? I think most of these effects can be obtained in some other way / some other plugin.

I use Nik HDR quite a lot.
But Nik works not in my Gimp 2.10
Whenever I need Nik HDR I save the image as a .png and open it with Gimp 2.9 in which Nik works.

I installed them on 2.8 and they worked. Also do in 2.10. I started fresh with the pc I am currently using so installed them again.

Not sure that all of the nik plugins work but enough do, to use them if your keen enough. Also, I was under the impression even Google wasn't supporting them anymore and neither was anyone else.
