GIMP Version: 2.10.8
Operating System: Linux
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a mapping of the gimp 2.8 to gimp 2.10 Gaussian Blur sizes so that I can still do the excellent tutorials in this forum that were written with 2.8's values.

When stroking a path with the Mybrush tool in 2.10.8 I get the default radius and hardness even after I have changed them in the MyPaint Brush tool options. How do I stroke a path with my choice of Mybrush radius?

Many thanks for any help.

What's to stop you from using Gaussian Blur after stroking?

Thank you for your reply racer-x.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant these as two completely separate questions.

The blur was just so I could get the same results now as I did with 2.8. So for example if an old tutorial says Gaussian Blur 25 I want to know what the equivalent number is now in 2.10.

The MyBrush is just I want to set the brush size for stroking a path - I have the feeling I'm missing something obvious there :oops: but I'm always getting the default brush size. No problems with the normal paintbrush tool, just MyBrush.

Many thanks.

MyBrush have different dynamics to Gimp brushes, they have a limited range of opacity see https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-tool ... brush.html
you may already know this.

Thank you RJKD.

Perhaps if the MyBrush tool isn't integrated into gimp then stroke path isn't meant to pick up the likes of the brush radius. That would make sense of what I'm seeing.

It's about a third of the old value that GIMP 2.10 seems to use.
(Old default start value was 5, new default start value is 1.5;
source-code has some occurrences of multiply by 0.32)
It's very advisable to switch to 16bit precision to have good results.

@teapot

When you first posted, I did some comparisons and came up with nothing very definite.

A factor of 4 or 5 is as good as any but there are marked differences between small values and larger values.

You can of course, "borrow" the Gimp 2.8 gaussian blur /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/blur-gauss Copy to your Gimp 2.10 Gimp profile plug-ins.

Both in action. This using a circular pencil so no starting anti-aliasing.
