Hope you don't mind a little play with your bug Rod. Used Inkscape Material (marble) filter and a bunch of various GIMPy blends for this result. :)

I do not mind at all use it for whatever purposes under the sun. :)
I like all the newer materials with Inkscape 048.
In fact the idea from this bug comes from an Inkscape tutorial on YouTube.
I wish the interpolate filter ran on text still though.Seems like the newer 48 version lost a few tricks.
Trying to create a SWF through Inkscape today and realized it.Shapes work fine with styles even. But text will no longer interpolate like in 046. :\

Now all we need is an Open Source program so it can be its mascot. :)

you guys have really got me thinking of trying Inkscape...I've had it for a while but never used it...seems from reading what you all have written about it iover the past few weeks that it might not be too difficult to use but I'd like to know some basic differences between Inkscape and GIMP and what sort of situations you might use it in. Also, is it a first cousin of GIMP or just another graphic imaging program???

Hey akky; Inkscape is primary a vector editor (unlike GIMP which is a raster bitmap editor). Inkscape does have filter that can work with both bitmap and vector input (such as the marble filter I used here). There is a synergistic relationship between GIMP and Inkscape and many, including me, wish they would just combine the two into a higher lever program. You can try to use Shellout if you want to transfer a bitmap into Inkscape, but in order to get something in return, you have to export (not save) the bitmap file prior to exiting it. I just run it as a separate program and transfer my result back into GIMP via drag/drop. :)

ok can you explain the difference between vector, raster and anything else related because its always been a bit of a mystery to me and I see people asking that question around the net...I have no idea myself

A vector is an image represented by coordinates and the program or viewer used turns those coordinates into an image. A bitmap is a pixel by pixel representation of an image (no coordinates or math at all). Vectors can give you higher quality images and is scaleable since the image you see is being rendered by the editor or viewer using it's built in rasterizer capabilities. Bitmaps don't have this capability so if you have to scale a bitmap, you can get stair-stepping and other aliasing issues. Bitmaps like photos though really can't be vectorized without looking like some type of pop art or taking huge amounts of memory since photo quality is very subjective in order to look right, that is where a bitmap editor such as GIMP is really needed. Each system has it's advantages and disadvantages depending on what you want to do. I pretty much mainly do bitmap editing and fake the vector using vexel approximations most of the time (a vexel is the bitmap representation of a vector; it is not scaleable as a vector model would be). Now someone here can correct me or add more to my diatribe if they so choose. lol

Hey Akky; another name for a Rasterizer is a Raster Image Processor or RIP. lol

One of the ones that I like to do w.r.t. printing is Ghostscript/Ghostview since I can also create PDFs using it. :)
