Yes i noticed the two render and mask files there saved as .txt files.
I still can not get it to produce an output file even with your setup.
Windows keeps throwing the "poincare has ran into a problem and needs to close error"

How long did it normally take for a render to process?

Finally got it working in q4wine ( :yes ), but what a nightmare that was!

Anyway, loads of fun to be had now, baby!

Thanks, Lyle!

I rendered the pic it came with to test it.

Hey Cecilia; went ahead and redid it using Resynthesizer to create background fill before running the script. Still don't like the black background (there are color options for that in the program, but to me, it looks worse then black; lol). Don't want to take any more of Tux's space, so using another host for this one. :)

Cool Mahvin; now you got to share that info with all the Linux users. Yes, it can take 10s of seconds to minutes depending on how complex (big) your source jpeg is. Also, if your output it large, it will take longer. Result worth the wait though and that is what watching TV and popping pop-corn is for. lol

As a side note, I did do one more before I hit the sack earlier. :)

linux users, no problem at all in Wine. Rendering - a couple of minutes in a "getting towards vintage" pentium 4 + 2 GB mem. The freeimage.dll does go in system32.

Q4wine = fairly simple (no hoops) and no need to put the freeimage.dll in the system 32 folder.

All that is necessary for q4wine is to extract the zip to any location of your choosing.

You'll need to move render.txt and mask.txt from the example folder to the bin folder in the poincare folder in order for them to execute with the poincare.exe.

Open q4wine - console.

cd to the location of the poincare.exe and type:

poincare render.txt

Note that at this point, render.txt has the parameters for the rocket_orig.jpg image located in the examples folder, you can see the mask it's based on by running the mask.txt first:

poincare mask.txt

Again this is already set up for the rocket_orig.jpg image, but the plus to viewing the mask first is that you can see what render.txt is based on before running it.

All renders will end up in the example folder unless you change the file location in either or both mask.txt and render.txt.

Creating masks before rendering is advisable.

For your sake, I do hope so. Still believe it should work in Linux via Wine though, but I'm not that proficient in the Linux world (but do know the magic of sudo; lol). Anyway, decided to host this one elseware to spare Tux bandwidth. Now experimenting with half split symmetry, but do admit that I eyeballed this and did make a few errors; overall, it still cool. What do you all think? I am attaching my batch file and target file that I fed into the executable fyi. :)

This one was extremely time consuming in order to figure out where to put the skittles, but it is now done. Click here for it's flicker; click the image for the highrez. :)

I'm going to kick my self in the but; I saved the render, but deleted the template (and ain't going to re-create it; idiot I am; lol). The code used was a little different and will share that and will include an outline mask (for what good it is; lol). Trust me Mahvin; I am POed. I overwrote the file so don't think I can recover it. My brain was going to keep the template as well as the render (saved it all the files used except the input template), but got myself in a hurry and reset the ptest.jpg file for next time. Idiot I am. lol

The trick is to divide the skittles along the seams of the strait lines; gets tricky where you place the skittles at the curved end of the mask (that was the time consuming part; you don't go near that area. lol).

I meant your placement of the candies (m&m's?). The image ran as a mask.

I know Mahvin. I use the mask as a guide to place the skittles (my secret; lol) for the template. Again, if you place the skittles by splitting them between the seams (symmetry trick) then fill the inside white area with more skittles, you get complete coverage. Time consuming to get it right though (you'll find circular distortion on a few skittles in this case, so you delete or shift a skittle of the template until they are all about as round as you feel you can get it. Then you are done. Very much an interative process. Note that the inside fill is the easy part and I did it last. Getting the outline right very time consuming and I did it as an excercise and don't really want to repeat it now. lol

That's cool, Lyle. I was playing around with the placement parameters last night, it's time consuming, I know. But fun! :)

Anyway, the result you had was remarkable. Good job!
