Tough times for many country folk, even on the normally wet mid north coastline of New South Wales. The state has an area of 810,000 square kilometres and a population of 8 million. Riverbeds are dry everywhere and so are the dams. Farmers cannot grow anything nor feed their animals.

Several large (say 60,000 population) inland cities will run out of tap water before year end and even Sydney (5 million population) has rapidly dwindling stored water supplies and restrictions on use have been imposed.

Here are a couple of shots from our normally green mid north coast -

For many scientists droughts like this were unavoidable when permafrost in Siberia, Alaska and Canada began to melt.

As a 'problem solver' in the computer industry I came to the conclusion the underlying issue is an 'unlimited' human population on planet Earth.

It will get worse. Even when this drought is over expect flooding and hurricanes (called cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere).

It's very sad that we humans alive today have to experience this breakdown in the Earths equilibrium. :(
