Hi guys,

I putter around with Gimp and other software mainly as a hobby and occaisionally for use to make a t-shirt design for the club I belong to, etc.

I was wondering how you folks use your creations made in Gimp. Do you use it for work or are you hobbyists?

Thanks,

Em

For the most part, I use GIMP on images destined for websites. On occasion, I try to repair and retouch old photos. Other times, I use GIMP just for fun.

I don't do art with Gimp :)

I do often doctor pictures before printing them or sending them to my victims.

I mainly make forum signatures. Not a lot of them and not very well, but here are a couple of my favorites:

Being a digital painter, I mostly decorate my walls. ;) Taking a tally, I currently have ... 116 self-made images put up around my place. Used to be pencil and charcoal in my old apartment, now it's all GIMP and/or MyPaint. Recently weeded out a bunch of old ones too.
I have done some CD covers and random paid commissions now and then. Also, people can in principle buy prints of my stuff through DA but ... let's just say it's not time to quit the day job. ;)

I create signature tags for people in tag groups etc and banners and tags for forums etc...Sometimes I knock them up from my head and sometimes I do them from a PSP or photoshop tutorial using GIMP instead...gotta improvise a bit but it makes an interesting challenge.

eg this one came from my head yesterday.....

and this one is from a PSP tutorial a while back....

I make web graphics, custom backgrounds for people, signature cards like Akky does (very nice work by the way) occasionally for church, and projects for people who can't afford to pay to have a graphic made or photo retouched. And a lot of just pointless fooling around, hence te weekely Gimp game.

I use Gimp to fix up photos that could use some help, and to make graphics for forums and blogs I participate in...and mostly just to play around with.

I use to do texture artist stuff on IMVU. I quit that, but actually do most things just for fun and learning.

I am leaning toward learning to create simple designs and clipart to transfer onto wood for signs etc and then paint them like you would stencils. Gimp is helping me to learn how to 'paint' with colors without wasting precious resources as i learn. :)

I've used GIMP for a variety of projects, especially web sites. I love the gimp image map feature. I haven't tried it out for this version (yet), but I found it's easy. Could not be simpler.

the free select tool :freesel wasn't always so clever, but now it's perfect. I use that for making masks

Over the years I've used many image processing programs on a variety of OS's and GIMP is so versatile I wouldn't want to be without it. And this is for basic everyday stuff. I'm getting more into the cool filters now just because I have a little more time for that.

When not using GIMP I use AfterEffect because that is perfect for special effects

Other than Gimp I also use inkscape, Xara designer 5, and turbocad. I'm not above using several applications to get the effect i want. Some people frown down on that but I'm more interested in the result than being a purist and only use one application.

I'm currently a 50/50. I own a graphics shop on some forums, so I don't use myself what people order. But, when it comes to stuff I make for fun, I normally use it as avatars and signatures on random sites.
