All i did was take an image of a golf ball and cut everything around the text, then added a bevel on the text to give it some more highlights and shadows

Golf Ball Patterns have to exist somewhere!

Here is mine. I can't get the text as good as I want it but I will work on it some more.

Did you use the paths tool for creating the lettering or did you just use a certain font?

i used the font arista from dafont.com and ive been working on the golf ball pattern and im pretty close but not quite there yet

Lighten up the insides of the dimples to one color and i think that will be about right.

This golf ball worked out nicely. I shrank it to fit the text.

Just for the Challenge, I created this seamless texture using GIMP's Mosaid Mosaic {never said I was a good speller; lol) filter (and some G'MIC acrobatics {i.e., don't ask}) and used it along with plastic wrap and many other things to for the G.

Here's the best golfball that I could render using the above texture, Mathmap Distort, Plastic Wrap Script-fu, and Gradient Overlay with above result set to Darken and adjusted opacity.

Thanks Willy. I did modify the texture some and posted it at my Deviant. Also, did a mirror and strait tile blend to create this golf ball (for that varing shade effect) using the updated texture.

Wish I could help you Akky; Maybe you could post you error and maybe a guru here can help you get it to work. You can also try to use G'MIC's Relief Light preset since it gives very similar results.

that pattern works great! i didnt even think of using plasti wrap to get the ball look more shiny!

Thanks Jacob. Now for a confession. A few years, when I was pursuing space art and looking for some cool planet textures, I ran across this site and saw this cool 3D golfball and I desperately tried to emulate the result using GIMP but at that time failed. Picked up so many more tricks since then and you gave me the inspiration to try again. Just now noticed that the dimples of your cool text example and a few golfballs were hexagonal, while others are dimple including this model. Don't golf myself so don't which is right or wrong, but like the hexagonal dimples better anyway.

i never knew golf balls had hexagon dimples but i searched golf ball texture in google so i could recreate it and it gave me a bunch of hexagon grids
