Hi admins.
I'm back at home and I found an unexpected problem.
While I can access Gimpchat from my laptop (the one used during my vacations, and which I am using now to write this post), I can no more access Gimpchat from my home PC (always time-out).
All other sites I use are regularly accessible (Gimp Learn, Gimp Forum etc).
Any suggestion (easy for a non expert on system technicalities)?
So far I did:
- a complete virus scan
- an off/on (restart) of the modem
- ipconfig /flushdns

What is the address for GimpChat on your home PC ('ping gimpchat.com' in a command prompt/terminal)? And on your laptop?

Diego - It looks like you were a victim of recent system issues caused by a faulty GC upgrade by Omega. A number of us were caught out but I identified the problem as being a device IP address issue at the server end ... unfortunately those of us who were logged in at the time of the faulty upgrade developed the 'phantom system' mode ... refer viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18629

Following correction of that error, those of us logged in at that time could no longer access GC on that device, just timed out. I still cannot get access on my old notebook.

Skinnyhouse came up with a solution identified in that thread above.

I think there are a couple of other solution links around; I will try to find them for you.

dinasset, I just had the same problem on my laptop and it's not the first time ... I also did a virus scan afterwards.

Level_0 - OK that is one way of resetting your device IP address; works with some obviously but did not work on mine

Tried already as stated in my initial post.

Diego - basically you somehow need to change the IP address of your home PC, so that it will differ from what is found in the DNS servers cache at GC end.

hopefully there is a "basic" (simple) way to do it for inexperienced user...

Diego - yes, for me I would have to contact my ISP supplier as they determine the IP addresses. Sometimes (as above) powering down the modem/wifi does work but not always.

There is a software method in W10 to force a device IP address change but I did not feel competent to try it and was not sure it would work in my case with my ISP.

I don't like digging about in Windows files myself but once the hosts file is located and opened in administrator mode you can see immediately if gimpchat is listed and then delete the references (I had two) before resaving the file. Sounds a lot more work than it really is. If gimpchat is not listed then at least you will know that the problem lies elsewhere.

OK, found and removed all the references to Gimpchat in that "ruined" file.
