Hello everyone, I am new to Graphic Design...new as in the past 72 hours new. I have been building a website for my buddy, in the course of coding it. I couldn't find any pictures I liked, so I decided to have a go at making some stuff. I have never attempted designing my own stuff before. Always had others do it.

I downloaded gimp, and have been reading and watching youtube, learning as much as I can. I stumbled onto this site via Youtube, and its looks like it will be my home as I continue to learn.

Right now I am working on layering...I have a lot to learn, the tutorial section has already proved to be a valuable asset. Thanks for the info, I hope to be able to contribute when I get more comfortable with whatever the heck it is I am doing... :tyspin

Regards,

Burnall4

Thanks for the warm Reception :hi5

did have a question...maybe I not keying in the right search terms...

How can I have a saved version of the motorcycle rider, where i don't have to use the 'path' tool to cut him out every time I want to put him the picture some where. Each time I have to go to my saved image of him cut him out, drop the background then paste him in a new layer...I want to cut out the "cutting him out"

Thnx

Make all the layers invisible except the cut out layer then save it as a PNG image. ;)

Welcome Burnall :)
I am willy, just hang out here for the nostalgia and I love to learn a few things about gimp here or there that could be useful for me at this time, but I have moved on to making Fractals in Apophysis.
I am sure I'll see you around.

I would also suggest keeping an xcf format file of all your edits/paths/layers, which will also help you maintain a selected object.

And welcome to GimpChat!

Burnall4, I always do my renders separately, then save them as the original name but with _render added. Also, I save as png in order to preserve the transparency of the erased background. When saving a png, tick merge, not flatten and untick save background. These choices will appear in pop up boxes upon saving. Then whenever I want to use the render, I can just add as layer to the graphic I am working on.
