The overall look didn't meet my expectations using GIMP. I found this honey text on pancakes tutorial, and had a lot of problems converting the PS styles to GIMP because the script that mimics PS styles (Layer Effects) isn't complete as PS - and - PS has Layer Fill mode (not the same as Opacity). Anyway, this is using O's suggestion of the water tutorial (http://chetanism.blogspot.com/2009/01/c ... ffect.html) for the syrup (and the butter - I figured I might as well try that, too).

First the PS tutorial (includes the plate and the pancake images):

http://alfoart.com/leaking_honey_effect_1.html
I was really impressed with the PS side of this, it looks fantastic.

My result, with work-arounds:

It made me hungry, too. :)

I just wish I could get the same look as the original tutorial, that would be the bomb!

You did a great job on the melted butter and the syrup. I would like to see the plate a little larger so you can see the thickness of the pancake. looks like it is part of the plate. great job.

I was using the provided images. I figured once I got the syrup looking the way I wanted I would try to fake out the thickness of the pancake.

Ah well, this is my latest result. I'll mess around with it more, when I get back:

Now that is super mahv. just love it. wouldn't mess anymore with it. UNLESS, lol, you want to off centre the top one a bit to make it look more like a stack.

I think it looks great! I -can-, though, spot the few differences between the PS one and yours. The edges on the PS one look crisper, more well-defined. The highlights on the PS one also look smoother... but this may be due to choice of letters. However, I don't think the PS qualities are necessarily good qualities... it's a matter of opinion of course. But if someone were to ask me which one looks more realistic, I'd give yours my vote. It looks more like real syrup. The PS one looks a little too much like plastic.

Looks good to me too Mahvin, but you put a little bit too much Arm&Hammer (bicarb) in the batter. lol

Mahvin, the pancake stack with syrup is great. The transparency of the syrup over the pancakes looks difficult.

OK Mahvin; I just cooked up a pancake texture for you (or anyone's) use. You still have to create your own edging effects (and add not so many holes as you feel the need to). lol

For the curious, I blended it some bubble bath, ball bearing, hair, and parchment paper textures and did a few additional things for this result. :)

Cool texture, Lyle, thank you. I sure wouldn't want to eat pancakes made with your ingredients tho. Image

That is really cool O, looks more like gingerbread texture than pancake batter. lol. So cute. Did you bump the pink parts or just add hi-lites and bevel?

I did Filters > Decor > Add Bevel and set the value at 10 on the frosting parts.

Here is my xcf layers of the gingerbread guy if you want to play with it. Be sure to turn on the READ ME layer and read it.

Hy Mahvin the Pancakes with Syrup looks really yummy, i didn't went to check the result of the PS tutorial but your result is for sure good

###########################################################

Oregonian nice gingerbread guy...do you know that in the town near buy they don't sell gingerbread guy but gingerbread woman with 3 tits ? No idea from where come the idea of a 3 tits woman , it seems nobody remember the origin of that
BTW are not really gingerbread woman, meaning that no ginger is used as ingredient:
are sort of hard biscuit mostly used for decoration (at least i never seen someone really eating that biscuit...well i found quite weird also use biscuit as decorations,)

If must remember to take a pic next time i go to town
