I might need a drawing, I don't understand what you mean, what's wrong with the text?

@Pixlab, if you have text on the back of your coin, you should flip that layer vertical and horizontal as wel,
otherwise your text is mirrored when the coin spins, like yours.
A quote out of my tutorial.

"The back layer should be placed upside down.
Just use the flip tool vertical.
If there is some text on the the Back layer you have to flip it horizontally as well."

Maybe Wallace can put my written tutorial in the subforum 'Gimp Tutorials'.
It also contains the explanation of the edge of the coin.

Oh, OK now I understand why rich2005 was speaking about the text.
I just understood the upside down thing in my previous post #40 when I saw the "T" upside down, but still I did not relate to rich2005's post

Yes... some time I can be very slow

(sorry Rich)

Thanks a lot Ella for your clarification, now I got the full picture :hi5

Pixlab, Thank you very much for your comment and clear explanations :tyspin

. Another useful script is Ofnuts' ofn-interleave-layers which has a merge option.

Nidhogg, Thank you for your tips :tyspin

I have put depth map on my list of things to learn about.

A try with a picture found on the internet:

Ella, Great tutorial :thanku

I did it by hand and then with Brian's script. Here's the script outcome with a coin image found online:

Gave it a go.
Made this for a friend.
Beats doing it manually.
Nice plugin Animicule, thanks.

Now if it only had an animated shadow.

Tried something different... with Pocholo's Christmas bauble... Now just fine-tuning.

Simply add it to each layer. Here I added both lighting effect and shadow.

I made this a while ago for the same person I made the coin for.
The image below was made using Blender and it's now used as part of a video intro.
I'd like to try and replicate this type of shadow within GIMP.

That shadow doesn't look realistic to me. I'd rather go with a simple drop-shadow.

I guess a simple drop shadow would work just as well.
However I quite like the other shadow,
even if it looks a bit unnatural.

I had to do this.
:hehe

I've found that when you duplicate the front layer to make the back, selecting "Layer" > "Transform" > Rotate 180 degrees works well. That's what I do anyway.

I made this loop video at 1080p in case I want to use it.

Thank you for your comments Jappaloe63 and racer-x.
racer-x, I like both your Christmas animations :hi5

I just flipped mine vertically so the shapes match up. I should have flipped the text horizontally too, it's so small I didn't notice it's backwards :hehe

Wallace, Nice one :kpix

Wallace, thank you for placing my tutorial to the tutorial index.
What inventive outcomes with the spinning coin, especially the ones with the rotating shadow :wow

I will have to read carefully about using g'mic. That's still unexplored territory for me.
Just way too little time
