In a few years that girl is going to have boys flocking to her house every five minutes. I'm glad I'm not her dad. I'm also glad you got to spend a day at the zoo, I spent the day painting, and my oldest rat that I love so much died. The 4th wasn't a good year for me this year.

Well, she was 4 1/2 years old, in people years that would be 135. She had a long happy life and got to do more than most rats ever get to do. We spent a lot of time together and her last night i put her by my pillow and had my hand on her all night long so she wasn't alone. We just recently lost 2 other rats from the same medical problem and they lingered for days, paralysed and helpless. Sheba just went to sleep and didn't wake up. I really couldn't ask for a better ending. I had a good cry, several in fact, and will always love her but everything has to die.

Having three with the same problem is more than a coincidence so we're taking measures that might help to avoid them in the future. Instead of tap water we're giving them bottles water, no chlorine, which is known to cause problems in rats. I wonder what problems it causes in us that we don't know about? It will be expensive but hopefully will avoid them getting sick and lingering for days or sometimes weeks.

You can (sorry forgot the word), but leave it out for a few days, and the chlorine will evaporate away, and then it should be fine. Thats what we have to do for the fish tank, and for the Leopard Gecko's water.

Cool pictures Rod. That 16-ft gator is sinister-looking. Wouldn't want to meet him in person. Image

Your granddaughter is adorable.

Love those penguins. :pengy

Yes, I considered that but after seeing what they go through I don't want to take any chances. We might start collecting rain water and using that.

The gator looks like a typical politician to me. My wife has always liked penguins, if she could kidnap one from the zoo she would do it. With the St Louis zoo it would be easy because they're in a big man made cave (tent made to look like one) and they're just an arms length away. if a person is brave enough they could physically reach out and pet them.

You should check that out, there can be some hidden nasties in Rain Water

Unless you have a refrigerated room, that wouldn't work.
