it should already be there but check your Preferences and see that GIMP knows where the fonts folder is.

it should already know about the system fonts, but you don't want to put all your fonts in the system folder....you should keep your special fonts for GIMP in their own location.

I got a font installed, (I think I did it system wide), by opening with Font viewer and then it showed up in GIMP, and it is just default... in font viewer it doesn't look default.

And thats a good workaround, I can just set up another place for them thanks cecilia

The general system utilities install the fonts for the whole system so you can use them in various apps (OpenOffice, InkScape...). Putting them in the Gimp folders installs them for Gimp only.

exactly - you have the flexibility.

where you put a font depends on what you plan to use it for.

some fonts are way to "crazy" to be system fonts, so I just place them in my GIMPs font folder.

I put all my fonts into Windows Font folder, even the crazy ones, that way I can use them on everything. Word, Excell, Inkscape etc...

that's fine - but in windows the more fonts you have in the systems folder the more memory that uses. that starts to get clumsy when you have a million fonts in there.....just be aware

I'd love to do the opposite... there are plenty of system fonts I'll never use with Gimp and they just clutter the font list...

Same here Molly, i install in Windows/Fonts folder. But i keep the number at or around 1800 fonts installed in the windows/fonts file at any one time.

Get too many fonts in there and the font installer gets boggy also! :)
