1,000!

I noticed this just a few moments ago

``1000 users were online today: 40 registered, 2 hidden, 8 bots and 950 guests (active users today)''

Not sure if it is a record since the stat doesn't seem to be available ~ but it's the very first time I've seen a four-digit tally.

Nice catch, merrak. GnuTux keeps track of our stats. He'd be able to tell us if we had more than 1k online at another time.

Sounds like if 3 of every 950 guests signed up and became active this forum would explode in exactly 45 days, at which point I would be half way around the world, in a Hot Air balloon.

For every one poster there are at least 30 lurkers.

According to the servers stats for June, Gimp Chat averaged around 1200 unique visitors (based on IP) per day, with 1410 being highest daily count for June, 2011.

Gimp Chat averaged around 20,000 unique visitors per month (based on IP) for April, May and June, 2011. That's up ~20% from the first quarter of 2011.

In June, Gimp Chat had 1,642,594 hits, served 677,406 pages and transferred 36.33 GB in bandwidth.

Windows users: 61%
Linux users: 29%
Mac users: 8%
Other: 2%

Firefox: 56%
IE: 17%
Chrome: 17%
Safari: 4%
Opera: 4%
Other: 2%

Just a silly question, but how does the statistics know who are using Windows, Linux Mac etc. and how does it know who is using Firefox, IE Chrome etc. This isn't important but I was just curious.... :teeth

The requests your navigator sends to the server includes a "user-agent" identifier. For instance, mine says:

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.18) Gecko/20110628 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.18

Of course these can be faked (on in the past, it was very useful, when running Mozilla or Firefox, to fake an IE user-agent), but nowadays few people do so.

Maybe mobile phone platforms fall into the ``other'' category, such as Android or iOS. Sun has an OS, but I can't see 1 out of every 50 people using it.

When I was running Gentoo and frequently visiting the forums, I found a lot of people who used FreeBSD. They'll probably account for some of the other 2%.

Merrak is correct. The "other" category is made up of Symbian, BSD, Blackberry/Java Mobile and phone browsers via Android & iPhone.
