I've been playing around a bit with Apophysis (fractal flame generator). This was one of the first flames I generated. It's probably not very remarkable in of itself, but it resembled a sunset so much I wanted to expand on it. I added the base sky, silhouette, and character with GIMP. This is my result:

I love what you did to the sky. The fenceposts on the right give a fine interest to the picture. I like it. It certainly looks lonely.

:ninja by O.

I find that many fractal designs resemble sky and space scenes. I particularly like your use of this fractal, sort of like a dancing sky. Good job! :)

Thanks! :) Apophysis is fun to play with, but I wish I could find some tutorial or document that explains what is going on mathematically when the parameters are fiddled with... although it may not matter. Most of these fractals relate to a branch of mathematics called analysis and/or complex analysis, which are not strong subjects for me.

merrak, show up in the aposhack again, one of the guys who works on Apophysis (xyrus02) is in there, if you want you could probably note him too.

It is open source too if you prefer you could probably look for yourself?

oops... I didn't get your reply until about an hour later. I might have to try showing up some other time; I'm about to go pick up my wife from work, then run my online class.

If there's a time he is usually hanging around I'd be interested in meeting him.

He lives in Europe, and is in there most of the time, although was really ill for the past week, (maybe a bit irritable due to that), but is better now.

Is the main idea behind Apophysis to play with the triangles until you find something good... or does the program have more depth that I'm missing? So far I've made the sky flame and a blob... nothing really spectacular.

There is a massive amount of different Variations you can add into Apophysis to create in infinite amount of different flames. (variations Ie, Julian, Linear, Bubble). And then there are scripts and many techniques for making Ordered flames, that have a pattern to them and truely looks like a fractal, or more my style semi-ordered, may or may not looks like a true fractal (infinite repeating shape), then there is just straight chaos, looks like a giant blob of stuff... takes a lot of skill to make these look good.

I just discovered the scripting feature. I can see where this takes a lot of skill and patience. It's a bit like throwing a ball of clay into a running washing machine and hoping for pottery to come out. A skilled hand would know how to throw it just right.

I don't even use scripts, I honestly hate them >.>

Having tried a few flames, I have a new appreciation for what you've accomplished.

It just takes some practice I am not even that good, there are people who make me feel like you are probably to me, they god like... just stuns me what people can make with that program
