It doesn't really matter but I don't want anyone thinking I got mad and left so I'm posting this FYI thing. I've been retired since 2001 but recently have found my talents needed at a few non profit organizations and have been volunteering. It's gotten to the point where all of my time is divided between three organizations and i'm fixing things every day. Because of my arthritis this has proved much harder than I thought but there is work that needs to be done, I have the tools and skills and they can't afford to pay contractors so it falls to me. Between that and teaching 3 to 6 DFS court ordered parenting classes a day I feel worn out and exhausted. I'm booked fixing things at a summer camp for inner city kids for the next 2 days then back to the other places. I had to take my wife to an ER Saturday because she was exhausted and her arthritis was messing her up. I'm not far from there myself. I might be too tired or too busy to drop by here for a day or so, which will be hard because i usually check this forum several times a day. Even when I get done with these massive jobs I'm going to need a long rest so if i don't post anything for a little while don't think I left mad over some recent discussions. I'm just way busy and worn out. Unless I die or the world ends or something else interesting happens I should be back in a day or two. I consider this forum home and don't want to be gone any longer than necessary.

I always root for the underdog, pressing on in times of adversity (pain and health issues). Your volunteering and utilization of skills for the less fortunate is an admirable trait. I can only wish I had the same kind of skills that could be used in that capacity. Thanks for sharing the FYI. It's good to know you care enough to keep Gimp Chatters aware of your current circumstances. :)

Sounds like you are building up plenty of positive karma. Good deeds seem to always come back around, if you know what I mean. Have fun and see ya soon.

I had a few minutes this morning and decided to make the time to stop by GC, the world can wait for a few minutes. Thanks for all the encouragement, Today I have to put in a sink then fox some fluorescent lighting, but I'm going to take my time at it. I'm a volunteer, they can't fire me. Our poor ferrets are stir crazy from not getting to the park. It's been too hot but if we get over really early we could do it. I keep meaning to post an updated pic of our latest batch of babies, who are all grown up now but haven't had the time. I hope to this afternoon. When my copy of video Studio x3 gets here I'm going to post a vid of them and have decided that I'm going to make a series of rat care on youtube. That's IF my new used laptop is working. I've had it a week and it's starting to just shut off with no warning or apparent reason. the battery is dead and i have a new one on the way but i don't think that would cause it to just shut off at random. Fingers crossed.

It might be a bad sensor, or maybe it just gets too hot. In most computers now a day, when they get too hot they turn themselves off to protect there innards.

Laptops have a habit of shutting off like Willy says when they are too hot. We have had this happen often so we went out and bought a fan that sits underneath the laptop that plugs into the USB. It works great. It was $20, might be cheaper there in the States...
This isn't the same model but it is almost the same.

I keep my laptop on a cookie cooling rack with a piece of paper to keep it from scratching...I figure that way it has lots of air circulation. One of these days I'll get a real laptop pad with good air circulation.

yes, i keep it on a cooler pad, but it just doesnt feel even warm. i've worked on a LOT of electronic devices over the years and i agree with everybdy, heat is the biggest destroyer next to stupid people, but this thing just isn;t hot, or even warm. I used my infrared thermometer which is pretty accurate to monitor the air temp coming out and it's barely above room temperature.
