It's called a Haboob. I heard that a plane was just in front of this one and just landed minutes before it caught up with it. Crazy stuff for sure. Glad I don't live in Phoenix, AZ. :)

We get those often here in our great Aussie land...last year it just about covered the whole of the eastern coast at various times over a few days. Dust everywhere

Those are stunning images. Sure wouldn't want to fly into that in a plane.

Amazing to see it up close at that scale.was the plane it followed the one taking the film shot?
It must be really scary to see something like that coming at you from the towns point of view.
I can hear the news casters now... And in the weather buckle down your windows and close your vents this afternoon.Great gusts of sharp sand particles expected to fly your way at 120mph or gustier.
No worries though expect a nice mud fall afterwords. WOW!
How on Earth do you get used to that kind of weather? ... LOL

You know that is something i will never understand
Why do folks want to live in areas that are destined for doom?
If i lived in an area where huge dust storms were prevalent i would not live there long...lol.
Sort of like living near the West coast and wondering when the BIG one is gonna hit...screw that move before it falls into the ocean. :)
An image of our playground after our last storm hit in our area.

Natural disasters occur just about everywhere.

Hey Rod; O's right. Too d@mn hot out in the desert. California, besides too costly to live in, is prone to earthquakes, we here down South have more then our share of Tornadoes (and if you live in Florida, you have to deal with Hurricanes too though I've experienced the effects of more then en enough where I live in Alabama as well), it's too cold in the Winter to live north of Tennessee imo (and Tennessee is too cold for me; lol). Just isn't a safe place on this planet that is also always pleasant. Home is what you make of it and I am still blessed to be able to live in Alabama. :)

Didn't want to start another thread; they had their second Haboob Monday. Crazy stuff for sure. I guess we are repeating the dust bowl days from the late 10s/ early 1920s. :)

2 years ago we had one which pretty much engulfed the whole of the eastern side over a period of a few days. I have actually seen a dust storm coming in like the phoenix one...when I was living in Melbourne. back in about 1982 I think it was...

From the headline i thought you found a pic of me, this is a relief. This looks like something from Spielberg.
