Previously I was getting some clients on fiverr but lately clients are virtually zero.
Initial version of ChatGPT don't know about GIMP Plug-ins, it only knew that it was programmed in python.
Now though, ChatGPT seems to know a lot of about GIMP plug-ins. I wouldn't doubt that it can even write GIMP plug-ins.
Anyways I thought in order to compete, I should lower my price of writing a plug-in for clients.
So now my price is $20 USD/plug-in on fiverr.
I am more interested in user cases like variety of them that come from clients.

Those folks from Pakistan and India would way undercut my prices to get the clients. It was brutal. I wish you the best my friend.

I chatted with a friend who's a Photoshop graphics designer asking if he knows graphic designers who use GIMP, he said everyone he knows are moving to Affinity.
This means that in the future I have even less chance of getting clients (at least not from that crowd).

Yeah the reason they are moving to Affinity is because right now you can get all three - Photo,Designer, and Publisher for a 6 month free trial period. Designer for vector art is the only one i use. But mostly it's Inkscape 1.4-beta 3.

Gimp is still my go-to for graphics though.
Can't wait for Gimp-3.0 to be released so i can start writing plug-ins again. I got a cool idea for a Custom Font engine. That will really quicken the algorithm i use for Custom Fonts now. Which would include non destructive layers.

I like colorhunt.co so I started a site (it's free hosting right now with a limit of 5GB) so about 5000 plaids patterns can fit
But at some point I want to grow and make it into real paid hosting with more functionality.
Right now it does what I want lets user vote and I as admin can add new patterns

Yeah I like it way more than blog format since you can see votes and many pattern at once.... blog feels like you gotta click and drill in too much

It's a touch and go with SCM plug-ins. Some load and you then have to figure out their deprecated values.
For instance i believe gimp-get-fontname is now gimp-get-extens-font. Not sure though. Haven't really tested it yet. I also haven't tested any plug-ns (executables, and python). I think they are fixing the API and PDB for 3.0 after the first release candidate. For 3rd party plug-ins that is.

I can get a lot of the older SCM plug-ins to load including a few of my own. Getting them to work with the new PDB calls however is another story. But i believe if you can get them to load into the menus you should be able to figure out the PDB for the correct coding as well.

foggify.py serves as a kind of model plug-in.
Also each of them goes into their own folder. foggify.py goes into a folder named foggify and so on.

None of the old python2 stuff will work as is.

I am pretty sure Gimp-2.99.19 and Gimp-3.0 use Python 3.

chatgpt tried to write GEGL plugins under my orders. Many times it got the properties correct but hallucinated non-existent GEGL properties and used features in GEGL i had no idea existed (but they did nothing). Only once did it get a working gegl:linear gradient slider. Every other time it compiled but did nothing or crashed GIMP.

If you want to be as competitive as possible learn gegl syntax and automate with that.

The only way chatgpt is going to make a gegl filter is if we give it training data like this is inner glow

ect shadow, outline... with node connections, property names ect...

That way it "knows" what text styling effects are. Then we can give it more complex instructs like make a gegl plugin with sliders for bevel first, inner glow second, outline third and shadow last and it will do it. It has nothing defined for GEGLs relationship to special effects that is the problem.

Of course, they do.
But we'll not only have a new python version ( python3) but also a brand-new API.
This makes it necessary to rewrite the plug-ins.
But it's doable ...
