It works fine for me for Gimp 2.10.38 and Gimp3.0.2

I get that error as well - linux Gimp 2.10.38 / Gimp 3.0.2 with gmic_gimp_qt 3.5.3

I did get it to work Gimp 2.10.38 with a gmic_gimp_3.2.0 version. (you need to update and earlier versions not possible)

There might be later versions also working, I do not know.

Maybe David Tschumperlé will fix.

Edit: hmmm...both 2.10 and 3.0 in a terminal
