My copy/paste is no longer in color

Operating System: Mac OS
OS Version: Tahoe
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hello all, I am trying to paste a copy of an image into a new document and they end up being in black and white. This has never happened to me before and I can't figure out how to change it to color. I have used GIMP for many years but I still consider myself a novice using just the basics. Thank you.

Check to see if the image is not in index mode and if has a alpha channel, that could be the problem.

Thanks Teamouse! It was the Alpha channel. Solved my problem.
