I'm only online for a minute (computer has been lonely) but I wanted let you know I haven't fallen off the Earth... just yet. I do miss it here and God willing I'll be back now.

We're all taped up and sandbagged, in preparation for Hurricane Irene. It's dark, wet and mega stormy, here at the Jersey Shore. The bulk of the hurricane is expected to hit in about 2 hours and expected to pound us for about 8 hours. Most of our neighbors have evacuated and authorities said that if we get into trouble, we're on our own. Such Fun!! Will try to post again, after the storm, and then some.

All the best.

Greg

Good luck, I think I would have packed up my animals, the hubby, and gone to visit someone inland! I hope all goes well with you and your property. My cousin lives in Broad Channel, Queens. It's out in the middle of Jamaica bay...and they had a mandatory evacuation order. I hope her house doesn't sustain too much damage, it was just remodeled a couple years ago. I assume she will remain on call at work as she is a cop with the bridges and tunnels division.

I'm on high ground in NY and it's been raining / not raining / raining / not raining for the last few hours. we put the light stuff in the garage so it would not become projectiles just in case the wind gets aggressive.

just waiting for the big blow

Hope your battened hatches are strong enough to withstand the storm, Greg!

The news sound like it is NOT getting worse, although it is still dangerous and there are lots of power outages. And they are showing us people who refused to evacuate and now need help to get out.

while it was a really big storm - like 500 miles across, it wasn't as destructive as Katrina. and I mean in lives lost. So far i think 10 people are dead. horribly unfortunate but not as horrible as katrina

of course, things were better organized for this storm. lucky for me. I think we lost some roof tiles and have little leaks in the ceiling. something to fix when everything is dry. but we are ok and didn't lose power

Another online acquantence of mine lives in NY and he and his wife's house got pretty badly flooded. Dad also just told me that both York and Jersey got hit hard but Maryland was spared. God speed to those who need it the most and thoughts and best wishes to you all as time goes on.

I survived Irene! :D
Wasn't as bad here in Mt. Olive. My house still has all its shingles. Can't say the same for the neighbors'.
