replace :will replace what you see in a (gif)layer with what in the next

combine:will combine what you see in the first layer with what in the others (difference between the 2 mode is visible mostly if there are transparent part in the layers )

Keep: is not really a mode, just keep the current setting whatever is replace or combine

Clear : never heard of clear as animation or gif mode.

i see
Well is a Saulgoode script so he will know more

However the commune meaning of "clear" is close to delete : so will be"Clear" (delete) any previous animation setting
(so the contrary of "keep")

But i will focuse on the 2 main options: you may want your Gif in "combine" OR "replace " mode and the best way to see the difference is save a gif that has transparent parts first with one mode, then in the other.

In this case images are much more clear then words

the other 2 options Keep and Clear have sense only if you have (manually or by some automatic default) given already animation setting BEFORE run the script

For what it's worth, this script was written way back in a time when GIMP did not provide an option of forcefully setting the frame delays when saving a GIF (there was an option of setting the delay if it was not already specified). The script is not really needed since GIMP has now incorporated the options of forcing the delays and disposition when saving; but it does provide IMO a slightly more useful approach (it is not necessary to save then reload the file, and also the way it works on only the visible layers is convenient).

The 'clear' option merely removes any delay specification from the layer. In addition to addressing the aforementioned deprecated behavior, it was provided to correct for situations when a duplicate was made of an animated layer which already contained a delay. Such a duplicate layer might be named "Frame (100ms) #1" and by removing, then re-adding, the delay it would be possible to rename the layer to "Frame #1 (100ms)". This was merely a cosmetic change as the playback behavior would be identical.

It was by no means brilliant coding, but it accomplished something which at the time was lacking and I needed. It is still somewhat useful, but could probably be written in a more comprehensive manner.

I like the fact that i don't have to save the file to see the speed change
