This is probably one of the best animated brushes I've run across for GIMP. Have no idea how it was created; the transitions are near flawless. Looks like he dropped off the planet after posted just a few Deviations. Anyway, I wonder if anyone knows of a barbed wire, rope, or other brush that come's close to this brush. Please let me know.

Wow, that's a really nice brush. I opened it in GIMP hoping it would give me a clue about how it was made. It has a lot of layers. I also downloaded his two spatter brushes and they have even more layers.

I think part of the way it was done was multiple layers with the shapes in multiple places on the layers. It's something I'm going to play with and see what I can come up with. One of the spatter brushes has 94 layers. Urg. That's a lot of layers.

I saw the splatter brush too but wasn't in the mood to splat anything so didn't download it yet. lol

Still, weird that he posted only two brush and dropped off the face of the planet. I did do a search on his name and found that he also did help a few others with their brushes too but not too many hits. Again, I didn't even know you can get such flawless transistions with gih brushes until I saw this one. Of course my motivation was to create topiary (thanks to 2-ton for increasing my volcabulary by one word; lol) renditions with vines and got tired of the one that came with GIMP. I have a not so impressive rope brush and indeed even created a yarn brush myself but not 100% happy with it. How this person created the vine brush and made it so near flawless just took me aback some. I've seen some vector programs demos that made brushes of this calibre but not a GIMP brush until this one. Now I want a barbed wire and a good rope brush. I again asketh for too much. lol

That's an incredibly good brush!

I've made a number of directional animated brushes, but nothing that good. I've tried to do a convincing rope brush several times without success. Twisted barbed wire would be a real challenge and lots of layers.

I can see a lot of uses for that brush, thank you. It is beyond fantastic. I played with the color modes a bit and had it a deep burgundy, like fall. I can see a lot of use for it.

Not sure how to make a continuous brush like the vine using targets like this Molly. I've actually tried in the past but the result was garbage. The problem with stamp brushes is that you have to carefully place the "stamps" to make them look good. The vine brush is just completely carefree and wish there was barbed wire or rope brush like that, but I've not seen any good ones for GIMP (seen some cool examples from a program that I already forgot the name off; also project Dogwaffle had a few cool brushes with similar dynamics). Now that at least one person created a brush with carefree dynamics, I know it can be done in GIMP, but apparently it cost this person his sanity since I don't believe he posted much more after it. Oh well. My brain cells are on borrowed time themselves. lol

You may be right but there are several other REAL barb wire designs besides that one. I have climbed over enough of them to know that.

Maybe a new section where you can add it and download it?
Sure would be a problem with the license - the author is usually unknown - but when the report file can be removed ... (or add the author and link page download).

As for ropes, I converted a PSP tube into a GIMP animated brush, that works reasonably well.

Nothing magic at all. He brush is just a whole bunch of "stem" circles with the same conical gradient so it looks like a 3d pipe/wire/tube an a whole bunch of stem circles with a "twig" and a leaf attached, all in different directions. The brush is simple "random" selection, nothing angular or anything fancy.

There are 40 "stem" circles and 25 "leaf" circles. Drag the spacing way out and draw a line to see the cells.

Regarding rope, I think I have a similar converted tube but all in one colour (attached).

That's a really cool brush, mahvin. It's making me curioser and curioser about making a brush like that vine brush ... I'm wondering ... still toying with ideas here.

The vine part in the vine brush is static, it doesn't turn or anything. The leaves have the vine brush at the ends of the leaf stems and groups of the leaves are rotated around a common center which is the vine brush.

Ah! Thanks for doing that RobA. Now on to playing with something to attach to the rope.
