Hello, folks. As some of you may know, I am brand new to GIMP and brand new to the forum. I don't know how to do anything in GIMP, so I decided that I should start with effects that I need for work I am doing and learn other things later.

I have searched in the indices and all over the place for instructions on how to do a sample extract. I want to cut a flower out of its background, set it against a solid black background, and flatten the whole thing into a jpg.

What is the method for doing this ? Is an additional plug-in needed ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There is more than one way to extract part of an image.

Jolie's video tutorial using the Scissors tool is one of them. Give it a try here.

Be sure to ask any questions about it you may have.
