Greetings,
'How to rotate an image'?
I have a cloud image 'visible #1' that i want to create as a stencil.
So i first switched things so that the cloud is the transparent part.
And everything that is not the cloud, is now black.
But now the bottom of the cloud is too straight.
So i copied a piece of the cloud edge which is now visible #3.
But here i run into trouble
because i can't seem to rotate #3.
So the real issue for me is 'How to rotate the image'.



In the mean time i copied "image #3", and pasted in a new layer (#4),
and discovered that i can rotate #4 fine. And did the same for (#5).
That's a workaround,
but still i would like to know 'How to rotate the image "visible #3'".

Just select the layer and click on the rotate tool in the tool box >>
You can rotate multiple layers by linking them all and rotating one.

Could you take a look at Visible #3,
and tell me why RotateTool doesn't work for it.

First, you have a selection running on Layer "Clipboard #5." You need to go to Select > None to turn off the selection.

As Rod said, you need to link the layers: Click on the space between the eye and the layer thumbnail, hold down the Shift key and click. A chain should appear next to each layer thumbnail, if it doesn't, while holding down the Shift key click again.

You will need to click the Black cloud layer for the Rotation tool to work. Click the Rotate tool, rotate your image. Then, Image > Fit Canvas to layers so that it will enlarge your image. Rotating it will cut off the corners otherwise.

To simplify my project, i dumped the 'visible #3' .
clipboard #4 and #5, are the offspring of #3.
I did as you suggested, but
I don't really want to rotate the whole show, just clipboard #4 and clipboard #5.
clipboard #4&5 can be rotated according to presets, 90,180, etc., and moved fine.
But how can i rotate just 4 & 5?

Or looking at it from another perspective,
suppose i have a new project of image clipboard #4 only.
How could i rotate that,
or how can i increase the size of

Strange, all of a sudden
i can rotate #4 & #5 individually
where as before this moment
I couldn't.
How can this be explained?

You only have to link the layers you want to rotate.
Then select any of them and rotate all at once.

OR

You can select individual layers for rotation.
Believe it or not you can make a selection in an image and rotate that part of the image.Makes for some cool results.

I have no idea why it started working for you other than you de-selected a section on another layer.
Which may have happened when you decided to dump #3.

I think linking layers to rotate gets a little out there into advanced Gimp, but it's up to you.
Maybe a tutorial in your regular YouTube channel for rotation of linked layers and selections?

You can use my above images as an example if you need to.
How i did it.
Open the image - alpha to selection
Duplicate the image
On the top layer select with the free select tool or circle select tool(whichever gives you better results), i used circle select.
Then go to the toolbox and grab the rotate tool.Fix the crosshair for the end of the beetle so it rotates lengthways.
Rotate it hit enter/okay to confirm/transform
Select new layer (not anchor), to make it its own layer.
Erase where needed.
Merge the new layer and the top duplicate together.
Save the file as a PNG.

Thats it.

The reason for the duplicate is because when you give the image an alpha channel after the selection rotates it actually cuts out that part of the image leaving it empty or transparent.
The image on the bottom keeps that part of the image there.

You could do the same thing by just duplicating the image and cutting out what you needed and pasting it.But for rotate this is faster i think.Plus it shows that rotating part of an image is possible.I do it with scaling also.I am sure many of the other tools allow for this too.Shear/Perspective....

Ah yes, nice intro to layers.
Maybe you could add a level of complexity,
where the cheese is too big to rotate
without getting truncated.
And how to fix it.
