The newbie is asking how do i do that

Animations aren't my forte, but if one were to follow the tutorial ccbarr created, and you treated the banner background as its own separate layer, I am sure the actual text animation would still function like you're wanting it to by simply removing the banner layer. I'd like to offer more help, sorry.

I still believe there is a scrolling text script somewhere. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it.

Mahvin's advice to follow tutorials is good way to learn to do animations. There is an animation plug-in for GIMP called GAP: Gimp 2.7 with GAP pre-installed

There is a bit of a learning curve with GAP but if you're serious about animations in GIMP, it's a must have. There are plenty of tutorials on GAP floating around.

However, you need to try some simple animations before your attempt to use GAP.

If you were to approach your project manually, it would involve creating your text layer, duplicating it a few times and moving each successive layer off to one side and eventually out of the bounds of your image. Each layer becomes a frame in the animation. Save it off as a .gif animation and you're done. Give that a shot and post back your results.

I think the text script I was thinking of was the letter drop script that Saulgoode fixed up. I don't think it does the same thing as you want. I haven't tested it for that purpose. But I think Rob A has something similar (not sure).

And I agree with GnuTux, GAP is a must. If you have problems or need help, post back, and we'll do our best to help. Plenty of people here with plenty of skills.

i grabbed GAP,now the fun parts starts(that is if you can hear me explaining to myself in French,yes french,not the pardon my french language,but,still French for pardon my french)

Welp, pirate541, I found one of Fencepost's older marquee text tutorials here:

I skipped all the gimpressionist stuff just to test on a 2 layer image using only text and a green background and it works really well, the only thing is you wouldn't need it to repeat across the screen, just repeat the text. Which shouldn't be too hard to accomplish with a little bit of tweaking.

Where do i find the letter drop script?

Ummm, I couldn't find it online. I checked Saulgoode's repository but couldn't find the actual file. First check and see if you already have it in File - Create - FX Foundry - Animations - Letter Drop. Or in FX Foundry - Animations - Letter Drop. If not at either of those two locations, you probably don't have it. I've attached it here:

mahvin,I was able to find the letter drop (,but i think my Gimp took his clothes and left me,because i downloaded the Patriot font,and it is nowhere to be found.

By merging text with the head Molly.
Be sure that the head layers are all on transparency so the words coming out of the mouth look like their inside.
Download the GIF and open it in Gimp and you will see how i did it pretty much.

I followed Your advice on moving the layers,and it worked fine until it was time to save the animation.i saved to gif,and got a message that Gimp needs to crop it because it was out of borders,so i let it(didn't have the choice,mind you) and when i replayed it,half the words were gone

I sort of see how you did it Rod, but I still don't know how you got the text slanted then straight at the bottom. I guess I will have to experiment.

Did you put your Patriot font in Windows > fonts? I put all my fonts there and never have a problem finding them.

i downloaded all my fonts in gimp fonts and never had any problem
how do save them in window XP?

Click Start > Search > type in Fonts. All your fonts will come up.
