Once I put my mind into it I get right stuck into it. The easist way to learn, is to jump in the deep end and that's want I do. I learnt that when I started caring the elderly many years ago.

...Stand beside it with a tape recorder containing stock lightning sound effects, and mash the play key with perfect timing?

You have to convert it to Flash first.
Audio on the forums is kind of frowned upon though with great understanding. ;)
It can be very distracting to other users.

Glad you like it.
You have to have a SWF editor to do it.
Then just open the GIF as frames and add each sound file to certain frames.
The buttons need to have 3 separate actions
over - hover action such as color change
down - what does the movie do when the button is pressed down (such as go to a frame and play it or play a sound file embedded in the SWF actionscript.
release/hit - color of button after hitting or activation.

That is how action script understands and reads buttons.

On a side note i do not mind adding sound for you guys to your GIF files. :)
