Hi everyone! I'm needing help getting Gimp to save/embed a color profile to not only new images but photos as well. I'm needing the color profile to be saved so that when I view the jpeg properties outside of GIMP it's listed (sRGB,RGB,etc) in the details section of properties. I'm currently using v 2.6.8 as the latest version kept freezing on me.

I've tried assigning the color profile when in GIMP. When I view image properties from inside GIMP, it shows RGB. But, when I save it, and look at properties from outside it, there is nothing!!! When I'm saving the jpeg it doesn't give me an option to embed the color profile like it would with Photoshop.

Any and all help is very much appreciated. I need to be able to send (email,etc) files to a pro printing house with the color profile viewable in order for them to print the pic to the correct detail. I'm at a loss and haven't found any real help online.

Praying someone has an answer/solution for me.

I'm not sure how to answer your question, but here are a couple of links that may or may not answer your questions. This is something I am looking into learning more about. If I come up with any other information, I will certainly post it.

Inside the file you download is a bin folder. Inside that folder are 3 exe plug-ins, place them in your plug-ins folder in Gimp. =)

Download the liblcms.dll file and place that in your plug-ins folder also.


The plug-in will be found under image/separate

There is also another plug-in that you will find under image/mode but it sounds like you found that one already?

Ok, I've loaded the files into the correct places. Installed color profiles. Went through the steps as it said to. But, still no color representation when I right click on the jpeg image (I saved to desktop) and hit properties,details. LOL I'm about to pull my hair out!! I'm running windows vista on my computer if this helps at all.

When I go to "export" the tiff image, I don't have "adobe RGB" profile as an option. The only options are CMYK options. IE..US webcoated...blah blah blah.

I'm sure I'm missing something really simple. LOL But, I'm not seeing/finding it.
Normally, I wouldn't be this concerned. But, in order to have the printhouse make my prints, they have to have a color profile embedded (viewable on the properties screen) in order to print it.

On my Windows XP machine, I press the Windows Key and the letter "F" to open the search browser. I typed in *.icc and it told me where to find "Adobe RGB.icc". That's the easiest way to find it.

After you locate the icc file/files you should point Gimp to it using Preferences to add the path
All mine seem to be in the Separate+ directory. =)

What program do you use to install these icc files? I don't seem to have it on my machine.

Maybe I'm not explaining this correctly. I have gone into preferences on GIMP and set the color profile to Adobe RGB (1998) for the RGB profile and the CMYK profile to USWEBCoated Swop (v2) in the color management. I also downloaded the seperate+ and libcsm files and put into proper GIMP folders.

When I go through the steps as it says to in the readme file from the website for the seperate+ site, I end up exporting my file as a jpg and where it says to embed a color profile.... I only am given CMYK default profile,print simulation profile,own profile: Afga swop:standard, and none as my options. Nowhere am I getting the option to embed Adobe RGB or any RGB profile.

I've installed the profiles from Adobe's website and gone through what I believe to be the right steps. Still not getting the RGB to show up when I save the files from GIMP and right click on the file proprties (outside of GIMP)and go to details. In the "color representation" line it is blank.

What am I missing?

I also just noticed that when I go to the "export" image, I don't have a "set clipping path" option like it shows on some of the screen shots from the site I downloaded Seperate+.

Open a digital image and go to
Image/Mode/ and tick convert to color profile

see if that works =)

Tried that as well. At first I thought it was images that had no "color representation" in the property details from even before I opened it in GIMP. But, even with images that I open that does have sRGB in the color presentation and converted to Adobe profile it doesn't show Adobe in the color representation.

If I click Image/image properties in GIMP it shows that it's been converted to Adobe. Now I just need it to show it from outside GIMP so that 3rd parties can see the color profile. Sadly, printhouses don't/won't accept an image without that info due to them not being able to guarantee the colors will print the same. Even if you inform them that they are in Adobe profile.

My only solution may be to scrap the Seperate+ all together and make sure I only edit pics that have sRGB showing from image properties outside of the GIMP interface.

GRRRRR... so much for creating any new files and templates and adding pics.
