Is there any way to get the UI to stay put?

Way way way back when I first tried Gimp this was one of the things that turned me off to it. Even if the panels docked to the side of the screen and the image panel could not expand past the left and right panels.

I see in 2.7.4 that it can be one window! YEAH! But until then 2.6.11 is the player.

Ideas?

I had trouble with those 3 windows of GIMP in the beginning but am used to them by now. GIMP 2.8 won't be much longer coming out (I hope) and it will have the choice of a single or the 3 windows. I'm so used to the three now that I wonder if I will like one.

Don't know how you can do it in 2.6 though. My main dislike is when I have to bring back all three windows from the task bar when I accidentally click between the windows.

My windows used to move around a lot, were in a different place every time I opened GIMP it seemed. I don't move them anymore and they've stopped repositioning themselves too. But they slowly get longer and I have to make them shorter to see the refresh buttons and the others.

Try desk pins its a freeware program for pinning windows to the front.

I had the same problem as Amanda for the longest time. When I finally asked about it earlier this year, noone seemed to know what I was talking about. But I did manage to find a solution (http://www.gimptalk.com/index.php?/topi ... s-resizing) to the resizing issue. First get all of your windows open and sized to where you want them. Just remember that when you open an image, the main window will expand from the Top-Left corner. Go to Preferences->Window Management, untick "Save window position on exit", then press "Save Window Positions Now". Close Gimp. Now go to your user folder, something like "C:\Documents & Settings\Your User Name\.gimp-2.6\", and find the sessionrc file. Right-click on it, go into properties, set it to "Read-Only" and apply. Tada, now everytime you open Gimp its the same size, and in the same place. I still haven't figured out how to keep the occasional script from opening behind the current window, but DeskPins that Rod linked to is supposed to work well.

Here's the setup I use, with the Toolbox placed so that if I maximize the main window, I can still get to both scrollbars. Not perfect, but it works well enough.
