Disclaimer: I am REALLY NEW to graphic manipulation. I'm building a wordpress site for someone and the custom theme that was purchased for this was not as "out of the box" as I anticipated. I have the photoshop file to edit and re-slice, but I don't think GIMP recognizes the slices (please correct me if I'm wrong). So here I am...

My question is this -- what if I want the gif to remain transparent? My button labels are not the same length as was in the source PSD, so when I try to use the background (which is a gradient), it doesn't line up precisely with the background image. I may have to switch to png but I'd have to change a fair amount of code and I'm trying to stay out of there.

Am I just S.O.L. or what would you recommend? THANKS!!!

Can you post the two images? The gradient bg and the gif file you want to put over it? I'm not entirely clear about what you are trying to do.

You can directly upload the two images here in Gimp Chat by using the Upload file button Image.

Ok, here is a cropped version of the wordpress PSD (converted to gimp because it wouldn't allow a PSD to be uploaded) that came with the theme that shows the page menus.

According to templatemonster support, if I had PhotoshopCS I would just show the slices, edit the text and re-slice and it would handle everything for me, but I don't have Photoshop. The template is a poker theme as you can see, but I'm building this for a bowling alley so I'm swapping out images, renaming the menu to fit my pages, etc.

But since my text for the buttons has fewer or more characters, I was just going to create transparent gifs so I didn't worry about having to go into the code and change how everything lined up. But as soon as I save as a gif the anti-aliasing goes away (as I learned from the previous thread, which was great info by the way).

If I have to I can go into the code and change every button reference to PNG, I was just trying to stay out of the code. Suggestions on how to handle this?

Thanks!

if i were you i would just redo some of the graphic parts of the psd the way you want them to look and just reslice the image using Filters/Web/Slice then just add your css.

your template should have come with the slice guides in place...just re-use those guides to slice it again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't see in my GIMP menus that option to select the slice. They are telling me the photoshop file includes the slices but I can't find a way to select it in GIMP. Is there a plug-in I'm missing that would enable this? Thanks!

view/show guides will show the slice guides.
slice is a python fu script so you need the python packages installed to use it.Get the entire Python install files here.
http://photocomix-resources.deviantart. ... rt-easie...

Slice comes packaged with 2.6 versions of Gimp.So if you have these python files installed it will be there.

make sure to read the install instructions very closely and follow them correctly. It is very important that you uninstall and reinstall Gimp 2.6.10 after you install all these Python files.Gimp will then let you click a customize button during install and give you the Python option.

Follow the instructions and you will have many many more great scripts in your arsenal through Python. =)

If that doesnt work for you, send me PM or email [email protected] the PSD and i will slice it for you.

Thanks for all of your help with this, I was on hiatus but now need to get back and complete this project.

The link you provided seems to have been moved; is there an updated location where I can download this plug-in and the instructions? Thanks!
