OK.

I have a work colleague who was experiencing similar problems with files that don't seem to be there. I've just googled a bit and came across Windows 7 virtualization (example page: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/TechOff ... o-explorer) that comes about when applications try to write files into "Program Files" folders (not allowed under Windows 7) and the files get put into a "Virtual Store".

I can't yet see a way of getting at the files though.

That can be a problem only if script are installed in the program folder or using a portable version installed in Program File

Easier way to solve is temporary move all the gimp folder away from Program Files (weird as may sound 7 will block attempt to remove scripts but will let you move away the whole program, will just ask to confirm ) run the script, remove the script clones ...then you may place it back in Program Files
but again this may be a problem only if script were added in the program folder instead then in the gimp user folder

thanx PC. sounds like it makes sense but I would mess up if I did something like that.
I might just end up by taking Gimp 2.6.11 out completely and re-installing. The only thing is getting all the files out so it won't install that beastly FX-Foundry again.

If you decide to uninstall/reinstall, after the uninstall delete the GIMP directory in Program Files. When GIMP uninstalls, it only removes the files that it installed. By deleting the entire GIMP directory structure, you will be removing all the other files that accidentally got installed there. GIMP will then create a fresh, clean directory. (Unless Microsoft is pulling tricks to "help" and "protect" you.)

hu..scripts are loaded by gimp from the virtual store ?
Usually the Win 7 lock on Program Files will block transfer in or out the the program folder but without giving warnings (so you may believe the transfer or the deletion done but nothing was done )

And to solve that the easiest way i know is as already explained move all the main program folder somewhere else apply the changes and place it back

Molly should be no way to goof, you just drag all gimp from Program Files to the desktop remove that scripts and place gimp back i can't see chances of dangerous errors

Thank you PC. I tried that but it doesn't work. It does the same thing as it does while in program files.
I dragged the folder out of Program files onto the desktop. I had to click OK nearly 100 times before I got into it because of missing dll's. Anyway, I finally got it open, I went to Edit > Preferences > folders > scripts, I double clicked the C:Program folder and opened the Script folder. All the scripts are there BUT, they are all grayed out, (in other words, you can't click any of them). I put Gimp back into Program(x86) folder and I got one error while trying to open it. It is open now.

I am happy with Partha's 2.7.4 so I am not stuck. I just wanted to hang on to 2.6 cuz it is considered stable, until 2.8 comes out.

I guess there is NO way to get rid of FX-Foundry, I have tried everything people told me to try.
This morning I removed Gimp-2.6.11 completely. I removed ALL folders that I could find. I typed in Gimp 2.6.11 in search and it came up with nothing. I thought wow, it is gone.
I went into the Gimp site and downloaded 2.6.11 again. FX-Foundry came with it.

I now give up on it. Somehow that version of Gimp is hiding in registries OR under a leaf but it must be still there. Also, everything else came with the fresh install, except GAP. Why is that?
Python, Mathmap and GMIC are still present.

EDIT: Does anyone know anything about Revo Uninstaller? I have been doing a research on complete uninstalls.

Did you try what I suggested last, about navigating to the virtual store folder and deleting the files there? because you haven't said if you did or didn't.

I tried to follow that link but all I see is a forum and I also followed some of the links within that forum. I am at sea about finding a virtual store folder

Okay, Kevin, I went into that link I posted above and found all the scripts. I opened my folder with all the FX-Foundry scripts and put it side by side with the Virtual store and I deleted 100 FX-Foundry scripts. I went into Gimp and FX-Foundry is still at the top and still has 2 files in there, the other 100+ are gone. The 2 remaining scripts are: Image Effects > add Bevel Border. The other is Photo-Sharpen - Simple Smart Sharpen. I am unable to find those anywhere to delete them.





In order to get rid of FX from the top is to find those two files.

Anyway, so far so good Kevin and thank you so much. I have never heard of Virtual Store.

A bit of digging into old (November 2007) FX-Foundry collections has turned up "Add Bevel Border" in a file thomas-add-border.scm

And "Simple Smart Sharpen in" hall-smart-sharpen.scm

And just to illustrate that FX-Foundry is something to be installed with much caution, the current pack includes two of the scripts that are shipped with GIMP! and two scripts that have a name collision:

Wow, I can't believe how hard it is to find hidden stuff. Anyway, Kevin, guess what, NO MORE FX-FOUNDRY, they are all gone, all 136 of the suckers.

Good to see this solved and THANK YOU for the info on the VirtualStore.

For future reference, many people on this forum have recommended storing these collections in their own directory. Such as C:\Documents and Settings\User\.gimp-2.6\ScriptsFromGimpfx and adding this path in Gimp Preferences. Deleting this folder or removing the path would have salved the problem.

I am assuming that this still holds for Win7. Please correcting me if I am mistaken>

The funny thing is that I got to the Virtual store and was able to get rid of ALL the FX-Foundry scripts, but now, I can't get to it. I can get as far as Here and can't get any further. \\MOLLY-PC\Users\Molly\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)
After I click Program Files (x86) there are a few files there, but no gimp, it is a dead end. I am wondering if it got deleted when I emptied it yesterday.

I suspect that as the virtual store is dynamically created, when it's got nothing to store (you removed all the files) it's got no reason to exist so it vanishes.
