Just been sorting out my brushes and there is a load of Gimp brushes I want to delete but I can't as they are named as Gimp which are not in both of my gimp lists. I have 2 lists one is in C/doc> user name>Gimp and the other is in Gimp 2.7. Some of them are picutured brushes

Dose anybody have any idea where the Gimp brushes are in the list.

Thanks inadvance.

Those are actually descriptions of the brushes and not filenames, which will make finding them harder.

What I do in order to see my brushes in graphic format is open them as images in GIMP, then you should be able to preview them in your folder views.

You can even delete them from your brush dialog by right clicking and then selecting delete.

Not if you delete from your brushes dialog, pretty quick (just right click and delete them)

It's easy in the brush dialog.
1.) Select the brush you want to delete.
2.) Click the Delete Brush button :trash at the bottom (circled in red below)

I've never even thought of that thanks bkh1914. But I had tried to do it the way but the delete icon was ghosted so I had to go back on the lists again. Managed to delete them all :D

Most of them worked for me but I couldn't delete the ones that came as a pack. They are stubborn to get rid of.

In order to delete the brushes from the brush palette the folder must be checked "Writable" in the folder preferences:

RobA,
I went into Gimp Preferences, brush folder and my writable folder users/Molly\.gimp is already checked. I deleted a lot of single brushes that I never use but it won't let me delete the brushes that came as a pack. Is there a way around that?

Molly the only way around that is click on the brush folder and click on each individual file to see if you want it. That's the way I had to it in the past

That is the way I am doing it Lorri.
I deleted all the single ones but there are some that came in packs, like maybe 7 or 8 brushes to one pack. They are the ones that won't delete. Here is an example what I mean. It is the square ones in the scrn shot and there are others.

Molly try it this way open gimp then click the listed brushes on gimp that will give you a name of the brush then open the gimp 2.6>brushes on your top right hand corner as shown on picture type in the name of the brush and delete the pack from there

By a pack do you mean a Photoshop .ABR file?
You can't delete individual brushes from them. The only way to delete them is to delete the entire ABR file.

...Or do you mean a set of brushes in a folder where you've moved the entire folder into your brushes directory?
I've noticed that GIMP will open brushes in a sub-folder, but it won't let me delete the brushes in the sub-folder.

I have these brushes. The ones I posted in an earlier post. They are called Urban_Brushes by afeaugas.abr-001 to 010. I have been trying to get rid of them for probably about a year. They are not in my brush files by that name and I have already deleted a lot of abr files but apparently they were not among them. I rebooted gimp and they are still there. It really is no big deal but it just bugs me why I can't find them. abr, I think are photoshop brushes. I went into Google and asked how to get rid of them and a site came up but their instructions are for Photshop.
Anyway, I will not lose sleep over them cuz they are almost a fixture now,
I didn't put them in one at a time. they must be a pack of ten that come with one name.

You're on a Mac, right? I was wondering if you're using GURM or they are in the Program Files - GIMP brushes folder.

I use Windows 7 (x64). I took out every single abr brush and put them in a folder, so I can put them back in if need be. I shut down my pc, booted back up. All the brushes I took out are still in Gimp-brushes. None of them are in my user/Molly/.gimp folder, they are gone. Now, how can all the abr brushes still be in Gimp. They even still work.

I mean in your global folder, not in your user folder. Program Files/GIMP 2.0/...

They are are still in the Program Files/GIMP 2.0/...

The ones I took out of my user folder, I put them all on my usb flash for now, so they are not on the hard drive. I just can't believe this. The ABR files are the only ones I can't remove.
