I'm making a gif annimation of a card opening vertically but when it starts to close I'm not seeing the transparent background. It appears that the lower layers (top section of the interior of the card) are still visible behind the upper layers. I monkeyed around with the disposal settings but can't seem to get it to work correctly for when the card closes.

I made this one from scratch and didn't follow ccbar's recent tutorial. (probably should have)

Is there a way to make only one layer at a time visible as it plays?

Can you provide the xcf example pre file conversion?

I know that every frame requires the same background in order for the animation to be fluid in displaying, otherwise every layer that is different will show as a blip.

The image is 700x1020. That sucker is a 88.4 MB file! The gif file alone is almost 12 MB.

In the layers dialog, the list of layers (over 100) is basically reversed in the middle with the delay set higher on the first and middle two layers so I don't know what there would be to really look at in the xcf that I am aware of. I checked and every layer has an alpha channel.

I clicked on the help box on the screenshot below and read that if you select "I don't care" that each frame is replaced as it plays but it does not seem to be the case.

Hey Mahvin, something you said clicked and I discovered it was a hardware problem afterall......

It was the nut between the chair and the keyboard. As I was creating this monster I never went back and did the "layer to image size" step on all the layers. After I did that, and reset the frame disposal to "one frame per layer (replace)" it works perfectly. I did notice one thing, there seems to be a minimum setting for the delay. I enter 25ms and it still runs at 50ms. When I playback in gimp it works at 30ms but wont save less than 50ms. Go figure.

PS - It's a christmas card so I'm not gonna post it for a week or two cuz I might get beat up because it's not even Thanksgiving yet. LOL!

There is a script that will convert all layers to image size in one click.

Thanks Mahvin. I did see that a long time ago but never did anything with it cuz I never saw anything that had a .scr attached to it. I know now that you're supposed to copy it into notepad and save it as a .scr file or something like that (I think) but do you copy everything including the introduction/explanation stuff or where do you start?

I can provide the script. It shows up in Layers in the menu.
