Thanks for the kind words everyone. I did it yesterday in about 4 to 6 hours. I knew it would take a while so I stayed with a basic font and ussed drawable multiplication to make each one 3d then used curves to darken the extruded part. The rest was trying to figure out how to make everything fit without leaving gaps and holes. All done laboriously one word at a time.

What I was going for was the gradual decrease in sizes as you progress from the center outward like in some of the examples I have seen by others, but it didn't work out. As far as the subject matter.....what can I say, I love GIMP!

Very cool Drac. I never really use Gimp for drawing things from scratch like this. I always end up going to Inkscape because I think it does this kind of thing better.

Regardless, it's pretty freakin' cool.

Thanks "T". I've had inkscape for a while now but can't quit playing with gimp long enough to learn how to really use it. Guess I'm gonna have to take a sabatical from here and spend some time with inkscape, blender and a host of other programs I've never gotten around to.

Inkscape has some great resources on their site. The program is waay different than Gimp, but after about a month of tinkering with it I had a pretty good grip on it. Good enough to make some pretty neat logos with it. I don't have access to them right now (bummer.) but I did have some fun making myself into a Squidoo monster a while back.

Draconian i was thinking the 3-D stuff could have been done a little easier utilizing the 3dscript.scm
Of course you would have to arrange each word first, and that would still take time. But after getting all the text where you wanted it you could then select it all on one layer and run the 3Dscript.scm on all at once. :)

That might save you some time next time around. For instance this one i used both the word art python script and the 3Dscript.scm.It took about an hour or so.I used 25 different font types. :)

I tried to use the bytes & pixels thingamadoofloppy but didn't spend enough time with it to figure it out. I could not see how to enter the long list of words I wanted to use, number and choice of fonts. I did considered making the text on one layer and then using the 3d script but I wanted the extrusions to be proportional to the text size and all in the same directional orientation. I suppose I could have made a separate layer from each size to save time but then hindsight is always 20/20 as they say.
