GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
GURM

List any ERROR messages you received:
GURM not found

I followed the instructions to the letter except there should be a "." in front of gimp-2.6 in the path. I changed the "Dokumente und Einstellungen" to "Documents and Settings" as indicated in the instructions. Other than those two things, I cna't figure out whats kepping it from loading. Here's all the screenshots with the paths and the revised ini and py files. Anybody put a eyeball on this and tell me what I'm not seeing?

Remove the < and > around Dave in all the path lines.

Drac ..

Do this!

You have "C:\Documents and Settings\<Dave>\.gimp-2.6\plug-ins\gurm.ini" just take the < and > away from the Dave.

After writing IT procedures for different thing for the past 20 years anytime you encounter <> and a word between it basically means fill in the blank.

Example: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\blah\blah and if your username is Dave then it would be C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\blah\blah

Hope this helps!

I just tried this GURM thing and OMG ... My gimp loads 200% faster and takes up 50% less memory! :gimp :yes :bigthup :tyspin :shock: :yr :yesnod

Um .. yeah .. what RobA said. Dang I type to much!

Oh!

Rob .. I take it you can't have stragglers? So everything that goes into the 'userpath' has to have it's own folder.

I say this because I have brushes that I've collected from here and there and just threw them in the 'brushes' folder. And from what I saw the GURM expects everything to have a folder within the 'userpath'

Which I'm totally OK with!

I took out all the little arrow thingys everywhere and rebooted gimp and I get the same error messages. Next?

Edit: OOPS! forgot to do the py file and I missed the arrow infront of the path to my F drive. Works fine now. I knew there was something I was not seeing.

Thanks guys!

Isn't that GRUM the cats nuts? (cats nuts in reference to my computer science teacher in high school circa 1980-84, Mrs. Reina she was pip!)

Normally at boot my PC has just 35-38% RAM used and when I launch Gimp with all the brushes and everything else that usage would climb to 95-98%. Since I tried GRUM that usage only jumps to 42-48% Outstanding!

Good to see you both have it running and working. I can't GIMP without GURM. :)

I don't even let my wife into my GIMP Experimentation Lab. ;) But I do have a hotline to Lisle Krolsky in case of emergencies. :D

Were those tags there when you first started to edit the ini file < and > ?
Perhaps those should be omitted from the actual downloaded ini file if they were.
That could get very confusing to some folks.

Glad you got it working though.It most definitely helps to load Gimp faster. :)
All those image (pattern), files and brushes get pretty huge.Especially the PS ones.(ABR)

Yes, they were. That's what tripped me up. that and the fact that the little "." was missing from in front of "gimp-2.6".

BTW...."Speed of Dark"...I love that comedian, what's his name?......Stephen something I think, can't remember. Great one liners.

...and the answer is - the speed of dark is inversly proportional to the magnitude of the event horizon of a black hole, times the speed of light squared. (just made that up)

Perhaps you should send Rob a pm about changing the ini file a little to help take away the confusion from others.
Probably a simple addition to the readme file will suffice.

I got the "speed of dark" quote in my email .. no author was mentioned. :)

Oh that's just great! That's gonna bug me until I remember the guy's name. I can see his face clearly in what's left of my memory.

Just on a whim I googled up "speed of light joke" and found him. This guy is hilarious. His name is Stephen Wright and you can read about him here...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah That's better. Now it won't bug me all day.

Now GURM is starting to act up. I have all my brushes organized into folders in my "GIMP Resources" file and the .ini file pointing to it but they don't show up in the brush dialog. The folders show in GURM but no matter how many times I check or uncheck, refresh, reboot or anything else, they just don't show up. I had to put a few in my 2.6 folder just to be able to do anything. Everything else in GURM was working fine for a day or two and then the same thing happened to my patterns. Now they don't show up in the pattern dialog. Something seems to be eating GURM and I think it's a WORM. (Worn Out Retrofitted Motherboard) or something worse....

Any ideas?

Make sure that you read the readme.txt file that comes with the program.

From the readme:
Example: You want to edit the Brush Manager gimpPath. It would look like:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your windows user>\<your gimp version>\brushes, e.g.:
C:\Documents and Settings\Paula Smith\gimp-2.6\brushes

Drac: I'd need to see your folder set-up and your ini file in order to be of any help.

What is your "GIMP Resources" file? I wasn't clear as to what that meant.

This is what my brush settings looks like in gurm.ini:

[Brush Manager]
useManager = yes
gimpPath = /home/mahvin/.gimp-2.6/brushes
userPath = /home/mahvin/My Gimp/brushes
extensions = .gbr,.vbr,.gih,.abr,
installedOptions = Abstract,Clouds by KerovinBlack,Homemade,Snowflakes,Special,Speech Bubbles,

Mahvin - The "GIMP Resources" is just the folder I created to organize my "resources" outside of GIMP.

I noticed that you had several "installed options" listed and my .ini only has a few. Does that make any difference or do I need to edit that to list everything in each folder as well?
