I have a lot of history with Irfanview (and have corresponded on more then one occasion with Irfan Skiljan and he's been of great help). I actually paid, I believe, $18 for a license version since I first needed this graphics program for converting between various formats for Engineering documentation back in 1999. Anyway, Irfanview has been mentioned more then once here, but the reason I am creating this unique topic is that Irfanview has just got an update today and part of it's update is the ability to open up GIMP format images. How cool is that. I know XNView had this ability from the beginning. Also as support for the new WebP format. Just wanted to share this with you all. More details at the site below. :)

That's amazing, yesterday I was on the Irfanview web site looking for a GIMP plugin. Very cool.

i do HATE betanews because they never give the link for the Product or developer site, i found their habit awful

anyway news on irfanview may be better seen here http://www.irfanview.com/

Still i am a xnview fan also i do have tons of ps plugin and i found too messy the Irfanview menu for extra plugin...if you just add a few it become a labirith

but is a great tool anyway !

I just downloaded and installed Impressionist PS plugin in Gimp. Lots of options with that one.

Odin here is a small hint for you and anyone else running PSPI with Gimp.
When you add any other 8bf filters, place them in the same folder as the impressionist plugin.
Gimp will see them all, register them in their own menu area and most of the time they work better this way.
I have one folder for all my 8bf's that i call through the path dialog for PSPI.
That folder never moves and i just add filters too it.If they work they work, and if they don't i just remove the filter.

Much easier than creating a new path every time you add a photo shop filter. ;)

Thanks for the tip Rod. I have a separate folder on C:\ for PS plugins I use with PSPI. So far it works flawlessly. Although I've run across a few PS filters that don't work, which is OK by me. With Impressionist I used the helpful menu edit instructions I found here, with a search. I've edited a few scripts as well. A couple of ones I found at the plugin registry were better in a different menu. One of these days I'll tackle a script. I'm learning more about Gimp everyday!

I'd like to hear from anyone who has installed the latest (4.3.2) version of Irfanview and the all plugins add-on and having xcf issues. I'm on the bug board at the Irfanview forum right now with the "Plugin Author". I'm having problems with the size of the xcf image in Irfanview and the Thumbnail viewer does not recognize xcf.

Got you PM Odinbc. I only opened a multilayered (with layers that had layer masks) and it viewed properly (i.e., only the base layer will show since the other three layers are masked in black). Below's the XCF that I opened in Irfanview without issue. I did reduce the size and even so, it's over a megabyte. Even so, it opens up fine too. Note that the Irfanview will not be able to open up compressed XCF files (just tried). :)

Somethings going on with my machine and Irfranview. I open the same image in XnView MP and all is well, in Irfanview a 1536x1024 image shows up as 256x170, very strange. The same image as a jpg or psd is fine. Can you see xcf files in the Thumbnail viewer?

Well I got it working, sort off. I open an xcf it loads small, I hit spacebar, backspace and all is well.

Lyle,
Have you tried the "XnView MP" version yet? It's seems OK for me so far. I can't see PS support though.

You need to set up Irfanview the way you like it. I'm sure XNView is similar. Go to your settings and change the setting to do not fit anything. It will open full rez then. :)

Thanks Lyle. That doesn't work for me. It only works if I open an xcf and hit spacebar / backpace, then it shows the way it should. Maybe I'll have a look at Irfranviews ini file.

Fixed it. When I uncheck, "Preview active" in the Irfranview "File open" dialog *.xcf opens properly.

No; it's me that thanks you Rob. Pretty much most if not all my edits require me to call on Shellout. I still say, if this process can be made faster, that this could make for a future editor. An editor that calls out other programs for various effects and blends it all together. No one program but a program of programs. Sort of the Amiga of editors if you will. Parallel program image processing; novel concept. You pretty much invented it. Maybe could be patented. :)
