Indeed. Dialup sucks unless that's all that is available.

I often have to reboot the modem nightly to keep up a decent speed. Tonight it was running at .19 (probably slower than dial-up), so I rebooted and it went up to the desired 3.0. They have replaced the modem so I don't know what is up, but this happens almost every night.

Seems when I have DSL problems, which is rarely, it's usually the ISP's (mine is AT&T) DNS is down. I've also noticed that some ISP's DNS lookup is very slow. Open DNS is handy in both these instances.

Quote:
OpenDNS provides the following recursive nameserver addresses for public use, mapped to the nearest operational server location by anycast routing:

* 208.67.222.222 (resolver1.opendns.com)
* 208.67.220.220 (resolver2.opendns.com)

I have no idea what kind of dsl I have...but I run a test at speedtest.com every night, and I keep a log, so when I get tired of rebooting, I can call the provider and bitch at them.

Yeah my phone company gave me an address i can go to to make sure the connection is up or down, i went there sure enough it was down.So i clicked the connect button and it said it couldn't find the provider...lol

oh well it fixed itself after i unplugged the Ethernet cable, and the phone line.After i replugged everything...it worked.Maybe just needed to be reset?

I have had to reboot, unplug, and reset my modems to get everything back online before.

I was beginning to think they hadn't gotten my phone bill payment...heheh.
Until i used my house phone to call my cell phone and it rang. =)

all is well though...for now.

All I have to do is unplug the modem, and I wait 30 sec. then plug back in. Same with the old modem. *shrugs*
