I'll go ahead and add the additional info to the wishlist thread PC; not going to hold my breath though since I'm not sure how hard it is on the programming side to implement any of these algorithms (again, I'm not a programmer; only an end user). :)

yes sure but once there are the algorithms then is easy for a programmer say if is easy, if is not too easy but worth a try or if hard or hopeless.

i need images to understand i would never understand what a merging mode will do reading the formula (well except lighten only and Darken only)...but i notice that for make a example for Saulgoode is the contrary to understand merging mode he need to see the math behind more then the effect

Hey PC; Pixel Bender PBK files are just text files. Tried opening the one for CirclePattern but really didn't understand the flow well, but maybe you can. Still, I'd rather have the adaptive version that was made for Rhino. :)

i was talking about http://www.math.utk.edu/~kens/

You get nice result with the web application but i got only crap (again maybe the problem was just my images too big for the app ) and was even worse with my attempt with the pixel blender filter

EDIT

maybe i was wrong i try the java app but i was not able to do anything with it...i mean not that the result were bad simply were not result at all because i could only see the interface but no idea how that thingy works

i even try to load package and script (seems can't open images) but really anything happened not even error messages

i go back to my new binge ,3d animated fractals seems much easier to play with

Just continuing on with the binge. Created an angled seamless lens (believe it or not, not an easy feat; minimum that I calculated to get a perfect square was 9200X9200, but I faked (cheated) it down to 1600X1600) which I felt would make for a better looking texture for sculpture generator (imo; proved it to myself with the result). I added the seamless texture for you enjoyment, but decided to host it with the Shack since I don't want to take too much of Tux's space. Am letting Tux host the associated Sculpture Generator result though. :)

I was actually able to get this JAR exe file to run pretty nicely with great results in each script pack.

Pretty interesting program indeed. And you can download extra scripts and script packs from the website. :)
I believe how it works is you create a path and the circles follow the path. Then you color them make them bigger/smaller.Pretty neat.

Great find PC! :bigthup

Yeah; got that far too Rod, but couldn't figure out how to actually create my own concoctions like the owl for instance. Still, it was fun to play with. As a side note, I created this sphere with the angled texture before hitting the sack earlier. :)

Somewhat related is a recent screening filter proposed for Inkscape:

Many years ago, I use to be part owner of an offset printing company (went bust of course; long story). I did a lot of research in various dithering techniques (lines per inch (AM), to stochastic (FM) screening; also on various hybrids that try to combine both which is more my motivation). Definitly cool that they are working with stochastic stippling Rob. :)

Great find RobA..well i didn't yet learn to use inkscape (or any other vector program, maybe i am allergic to vector, if i havve to spend all that time to learn at least i want a 3D result..) but one of the links of your link contain a treasure of pattern

and since you like to do maps you may appreciate geologic maps
...so just in case you missed here the link of the link
