I want to make the face of the letters more of a smooth 'chrome' looking and less contrasty looking. I guess I would have to use Rod's idea to do that. It will be interesting to see how different version 3 will be!
(time for that rain dance???)

2-ton Version 3 is easier to edit the face of the text for the user the face layer is now the seperate text-layer if you choose keep layers and you can edit the face layer as you like.I have also added 2 more menu items to edit the strength of the metal effect and its brightness. It's been a lot of fun using it.

Simply filled the face layer, i.e. text-layer with lava

New Menu See first post for Rel 3

This has turned into a really cool and useful script!!!! Sooooo, is there a way to let this work on selections rather than having to use only font?

Yes, yes, yes!

Is it possible to merge this script with Logo Workshop giving it the 3D and "chrome" options?

2-ton anything is possible, but I could not get close to GMIC's extrude filter as it has an interactive preview. And Draconian I think Logo Workshop is by Gnu-tux but anyone is welcome to any code in my scripts they think is usefull.

a new version.. :jumpclap :jumpclap :jumpclap Cool :jumpclap :jumpclap :jumpclap

Graechan i included this (the previous version , but i will replace with this at the next update ) as many of your scripts in GIMP_PC_Lab

But i would like also add the help and i may do ! :geek

if you can format the first message as HTML
put in a folder with the same name (Metal-Text) and send me it can be integrated in the help
And would be nice do in batch for all your scripts i included ( i hope to do for all extra i added, it will be a long WIP but seems worth)

I hope to add,
