Because GIMP can read 8bf files, I thought i would post a thread about these types of filters.
I run about 100-150 filters through GIMP that are all 8bf's.They all run real nice too.

I also have many numerous links to FREE 8bf plug-ins, not to mention the 695 or so i have
uploaded to MediaFire. You name a FREE 8bf plug-in and i probably have it.

So if you are interested in running 8bf's through your GIMP, let me know and i'll show you how to set up PSPI.
Which is a small plug-in that helps them run on GIMP.

i have pspi but usually i prefer use irfanview or xnview to run pspi plugin
The difference is in the preview of most ps plugin..with pspi usually the preview doesn't work well

Irfanview run also in Linux with wine, and also in linux support very well PS filter

I hear you about the larger previews, that really is a plus.
The only other programs i run with 8bf's are Deep Paint, and Irfanview.
Both do run them nicely.
I also agree there are a lot of crappy ones out there.I just thought if anyone
was interested in running them in Gimp i could help them out.

Thanks for the links PC.

I never get tired of scrounging through ps plugin sites, I finally scrapped about 60 crappy ones recently. I still have about 120 or so. Thanks for the links.

I have so many PS plugins that I use with Gimp. I have used them with Irfanview, but I still use them primarily with Gimp.

Another plug-in i use is Filter Forge, and I am still trying to figure out how to link to the filters through GIMP. =)
Every time i point to the Filter Forge plug-in or the exe i get an error:
"no window handler in platform data" - don't know what that means.

I love the program though as it works as a stand alone, or through Photo-Shop with 7,544 available filters =P
I've downloaded 250 so far.I'll have to show some results the filters give one of these days.
I have one that makes everything look like its filled with sand.

Here is one made of chocolate.

What i like to do is use a filter on an image and then try and duplicate it without the filter. =)
Challenging but fun.

Unfortunately no.You can dl the Filter Forge interface for 30 days to play with it though. With unlimited filter downloads. You can dl filters straight through the interface also. It's quite convenient. =)

If you do decide to buy a license for Filter Forge, please keep in mind i do not profit from your purchase.
I just wanted to throw that out there so you know i am not phishing on this forum.I simply mention Filter Forge as it is a program i use and do own a Standard License for. That and the fact that it is a Photo-Shop filter interface.

I fear you will not be able to use with gimp the plugin is only for PS ,you will have to use the standalone

What i found really cool in fiterforge is that you may easily combine several filters to create a new one ...
i hope one day gmic will allow something similar

But i stop using it time ago...i hate create filters that to be used require PS and plus a pricey PS filter..

Periodically I do internet searches for Free PS Plugins. Sometimes I find some good ones.
