Anyone know any easy way to use this forum from on an android phone? Hoping there is an app or something because the browser is a bit difficult to navigate around the site in.

Forum runner looks nice the app says that phpbb is supported. Just required an add-on to the forum. Full version of the app isn't free not sure if the forum add-on is either

Just tried bbfoc and it doesn't work

Forum Runner's Website says that it supports the app store, was trying to post from my phone still and edit and quick post stopped working :gaah

No idea why, jumped on mom's computer really quick though.

ForumRunner is also free for forum owners to install

I was looking at TapTalk and I'm not sure if it gonna work with this forum, and not willing to pay 3USD for something that doesn't work right, if anyone has had TapTalk working or is willing to test it I'd love to hear from you.

If you are using the stock browser, try out Opera Mini.

using opera mini I still get the same clunky feel as from stock browser and bbfoc doesn't work with this forum for whatever reason, I have forum touch working but not working right, it doesn't let me post (and it should only free app available and the description shows nothing about limitations) either tap talk or forum runner are my suggestions but with this forums heavy customization I am not sure if either would work. hoping to try forum runner as after the phpbb addon is installed there is a free version to try with.

did some more research and tapatalk and forum runner both require mods installed back end on the forum's server

I think we discussed this a few months ago. There's some overhead (and other issues) involved with installing a 3rd party mobile app on the backend. I'm not too keen on a mobile app developer charging mobile users to access this site.

The better solution would be a standard phpBB mod, which provided a simplified view of the site, optimized for smart phones. I think at least one mobile mod was in development the last time I checked. I'll look again to see what's available.

thanks for checking this out, I agree with you about charging users to access the forum from an app. I see lots if random little forums have apps in the marketplace I wonder how hard it would be to make one.

I do agree with that... many sites now have a specialized version for mobiles. Works with small screens, and requires less bandwidth. Eventually what is needed is the mid-90s version of the BB :)

Ok, it turns out there are a couple of phpBB styles that are supposed to be optimized for smart phones. The styles are used in conjunction with code that is supposed to detect whether or not you are on a smart phone.

Any additional style I install won't include any of the mods I've made to the current Gimp Chat custom style. Although, it might be just the thing for use on smart phones. I can mod the new mobile style, if needed.

I don't have a smart phone to test with so you peeps will have to test it out. I'll post back to this thread when I get the style installed (and working) so y'all can test it out. Once the style is installed, you'll be able to select between the "Mobile" style and the "Gimp Chat" style via the User Control Panel. I don't want to add the auto-detection code until we test to make sure the new style actually works for mobile users.

Wacky things my brain thinks of. ;)
