They are saying this release has everything Gimp-2,8 will have, and is sort of a pre release beta.
Look for Gimp-2.8 to be released soon.
All bug fixes are finished all that remains is the splash design, and the documentation. :)

So i may try and compile it. A Windows version is supposed to be available soon.
I don't know if i can wait. :lol

The source is available. :)

Looks like it uses the same GEGL and BABL versions.
I have BABL, and GEGL compiled just starting Gimp now.
Hopefully i will have a working Windows version soon.

I think I'll replace Gimp-2.6.12 on my regular Gentoo install now.
I installed it on my experimental install by modifying the "ebuild" for 2.7.4.
This way the Gentoo OS knows about its existence and installs gutenprint and xsane (scanner) as normal plugins.
I like the splash image.
So far I'm quite pleased with it,will do some more testing before I install it on regular.
Gerard.

This is compiling quite nicely for me on Windows. :)
Just about done with the Plug-ins folder and the last thing to go will be the Plug-ins/common folder.
Probably about another hour or 2.

I wrote a howto about a year ago.
It was written for compiling from the git sources but further down the thread you'll find what is different when you use a tar file.
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1261
Hope this will be of help.
Gerard.

Edit: Do not install in /opt.
Use --prefix=/usr.

Have you gotten PSPI to work with this build Rod (know you do 32-bit version). Don't know of a 64-bit version of PSPI unfortunately. :)

No, you can have as many versions of Gimp as you want. I have three versions in Windows and one in Fedora.

I tried 2 versions in Linux.
It works more or less but some plugins either don't work at all or will not install in 2.7.

I do not think you can run them at the same time but to install 'Portable Gimp' just place in different folder e.g. if your gimp is in C:/ program files then install in C:/
For full versions I have 2-6-12 in C:/program files(x86),2-6-11 in F:/, and 2-6-11 in E:/. My portable versions are in C:/. I use Win7.
