Don't be too jealous ladies (gents don't dwell on such things other then the cost; lol). All I have to say is that's one heck of a craftsman that created this one. Bet he sweeted some blood while carving this one (I know; it was also done using lazers, but still; lol). Just thought the story was cool enough to share.

It is rather a shame that a substance with such useful physical properties is made artificially scarce* by monopolists. Society would garner much greater benefit from the availability of nearly indestructible optics, ageless bearings, cutters, and machine surfaces, and virtually perfect heat sinks than it currently gets from some shiny baubles.

* Contrary to convention wisdom, diamonds are not especially rare in nature. Large diamond deposits have been discovered and left unmined in order to maintain the high profits of a cartel of a small number of corporations.

I agree with you Saul. The only material that's better at heat transfer then copper is diamond. I suspect most folk don't know this fact. What's really cool, of course, is diamond is a near perfect insulator too. When I was in college, I use to be a member of the hybrid's society (actual name I don't recall; lol), but they were doing research on vapor deposition of diamonds to coat electronics for it's thermal properties.

You know what's really cool is that they are also able to make diamonds now. Quick quiz diamonds can only be made with heat and pressure? True or False

Chemical Vapor deposition, so of course false. Not sure about gem quality diamonds though, but I've been out of the loop for quite a while now. Vapor deposition using a vacuum (very low pressure) has been around since the early 90s and probably earlier then that.

Well that can happen very rarely from what I understand, and there was that natural diamonds take a long time of heat and pressure to make. Now though they can also make diamonds, often nick-named space diamonds, in a complete vacuum and an intense heat. The process was discovered after finding asteroids and having a good amount of it made completely of diamonds, not the best quality, they figured out to recreate this amazing property of the universe. The cool thing is though is these diamonds look goldish though.

There are more than one ways to make diamonds, so no one is wrong
