I just took a peek here.

Looks like the date has moved to Jan 3 2012.

i believe the date is always delayed of 40 days
no matter what day is, the time prevision would be of about 40 days

well Mexican and Spanish say magnana and Italians domani (in english tomorrow) to indicate in a optimistic and reassuring way a indeterminate amount of time:
everything will be done or ready tomorrow ...but that tomorrow belong to a different and very elastic time unit so may come after few days , few weeks or even few years

gimp developer prefer 40 days but even in this case is implicit that are 40 days after a indeterminate period of time (but for sure everything will be ready before the end of the century...)

Maybe the delay will give them time to compile 64-bit plugin of Mathmap for Windows GIMP (64-bit). Am I beating the dead horse or what? lol

MathMap, nobody wants to even try because others have failed. But I'm sure compilers today have better tools and methods available to them. It's 1 little plugin, Come on people give it another try :yes .

Lylejk no hope that the gimp developer would take time to compile a third party plugin for win

And you know who may do..Samj was not too interested and was upset by the weird requirement nfor the building enviroment, jamesh tried apparently with no success...i loose contact with Francois Collard that anyway tried time ago with no joy..

and mind that the problem is not much compile at 64 bit, nobody was able to do even at 32 bit (except commander guff years ago, i am still using his build, well a bit hacked but just at binary level, but for the rest is still a build of several years ago that still works but just by miracle

I'm no coder but do respect that it's a challenge no doubt PC. Mathmap is too important a plugin to let die though so hopefully the coders who can and also are GIMPers can take up the mantle and figure this one out. Maybe we need another rain dance for motivation. ;)

Yes and not i included mathmap in my version for win also in the hope to drawn attention on it

But the problem ,if i understand well is that require a different set of tool to compile , and there is some fear that the enviroment needed to compile it may somehow screw up that used normally

Just now i was trying to search a way to contact Commodor Guff that was the only that compiled successfully years ago but i could not trace his mail or a site he visited recently

I know that also Rod tried to compile , and even Partha tried.

well the fact that saulgoode compiled for linux on 64 bit may give some hope..

Surely, it can't be much longer until the official release of 2.8. :hoh

Yes, it looks like the "Make a GEGL 0.2 release" task has been added which has pushed the predicted completion date further out.

And I do wonder about the commitment to actually releasing 2.8 when I read posts like this:

Ah release with Gegl but not 16bit ? honestly i would prefer the contrary also because i can't see how that gegl "nodes may be used as nodes

The possibly to graphically combine nodes would make me change opinion instantly , but i can't see anything similar in the road map

Yes it is!
Partha is irreplaceable (from the current build - and hopefully future 2.8) - warmest thanks !

:lol that is so funny, I agree with you bilbo. I am perfectly happy with 2.6.11 and Partha's 2.7 with the single window option. I just believe 2.8 will come when it gets here, and not a minute sooner.

I would love the ability to go back and forth between layers and nodes like PostworkShop allows (cool program that I paid some dough over a year ago but don't use as often as I should). Node editing is the future; layers, though more intuitive now for most to understand, is the past. Still, I would like to be able to go between the two as needed to make true self-documenting (hate the term lossless) edits. As you, though, PC, I would more then rather have 16-bits per channel instead. :)

To me a node based app that doesn't allow to graphically combine the nodes is useful as a pair of shoes without sole

they may look good but better go barefoot

Patience is a virtue. You want everything now, but development doesn't happen magically.

yes i know
still are so many years of talks about Gegl that are some expectations, not only for 16bit but also for other things that gegl should make easier to implement (so was said long ago) as a macro recorder and nodal editor capacity

but sure we will wait
