Launched Virtualbox and noticed that an update was available. Decided to install the update and it hosed my ethernet (as well as not install right). Fortunately, Win7 did a pretty good job at recovering from a saved point automatically made yesterday afternoon. I then re-installed the update and all went well this time (had no idea why it failed last time; had no other programs running, but next time, I'll re-boot the OS before trying the update. Never had to do this previously but now I got burned. lol). I then decided to install the VB extensions for my Ubuntu VM and noticed that 12.04 LTS was available. Not having a good track record with upgrades, I downloaded the complete ISO and mounted it (use a cool virtual CDR program called Virtual Clonedrive; I know I could have used VB's mount ISO, but like Virtual Clonedrive better) and did it w/ the complete wipe option (really didn't have anything in the Ubuntu VM other then a few GIMP plugins and of course GIMP itself since you have to now install GIMP with the newer versions of Ubuntu since it doesn't come standard) and all went well until I had to re-discover how to create shares between Ubuntu VM and Win7 (what a pain; I wrote the procedure down this time. lol). Four hours later, I'm not able to share with you my adventure. lol

That's not too bad of an ordeal. It could have gone a lot worse, considering all the updates you did at once. Nicely done!

How are you liking Precise Pangolin? Any gotchas with the new release?

Haven't played with it much Tux, but, Firefox refused to launch initially; weird. Finally got a message that said you already have it launch (could have fooled me) and to close the session before launching, then it popped up (Firefox that is). Might have just been a glitch. Had to launch FF to search how to create the shares again. lol

Now, I'm back in XP VM world (just my crutch; also have double-sandboxed protection in XP). Might later re-install GIMP of course, but I mainly use Windows GIMP, but, Texturizer works better in Ubuntu then Windows version of GIMP. I already (and still am) a big fan of the Unity Desktop. Just click, partially type what you want to do and the options come up for you to choose. Very cool. Mentioned this before, but I refuse to go Win8 and it really does look like Windows is going to the pad side of things, and I refuse to use one right now. Win7 is the best OS that Microsoft ever shipped imo and it's already saved my behind (I do like pushing things way too much don't I; lol) more then several times. I do need to think about getting a new machine and hope Microsoft still sells Win7 or if somehow, I can just transfer my license to the new machine (will build my own; have a barebones now). If not, then I will be going Ubuntu all the way since I refuse to go Win8. Will figure out how to get my other programs to work (WINE anyone?) when that day comes too. Cool that I can run Ubuntu 64-bit OS in a VM.
